WASHINGTON, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Independent Pilots Association
(IPA) today ratified a new long-term contract with UPS, assuring customers
long-term, uninterrupted express service and rewarding UPS pilots for their
contributions.
UPS pilots approved the new pact, which stretches through the year 2003,
by a solid 83 percent "Yes" vote. Balloting was conducted by mail over the
last month and the results were announced today.
"This vote demonstrates the commitment of UPS pilots to our customers and
to helping UPS build the best air express business in the world," said UPS
Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Weidemeyer.
The new contract provides UPS pilots a 27 percent pay increase through the
year 2003 and improves benefits and working conditions. At the same time, the
contract creates a cost framework that will allow UPS to compete aggressively
and grow its domestic and international express business.
UPS Airlines is headquartered in Louisville, Ky., where the company
recently announced it will build a new, automated $860 million express hub by
2001. The planned 2.7 million square foot hub will employ the latest

world.
