Fellowship Awards Will Draw Management Educators from Nigeria to Kazakhstan to Upcoming Management Education Forum in Chicago

ST. LOUIS, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- AACSB - The International Association
for Management Education today announced the awarding of 76 travel fellowships
enabling management educators from 23 developing economies to participate in
the Global Forum on Management Education June 14-17 in Chicago. Fellowships
totaling nearly $150,000 were made possible through AACSB and corporate
sponsorships from Citibank N.A., Harcourt Brace College Publishers, Motorola,
The Commonwealth Secretariat and Wolters Kluwer.
"This is the first time that the Global Forum has been held in the
United States. These travel fellowships allow a variety of management
educators from programs around the world to attend this premier event,
enhancing the information exchange and networking that the Forum is designed
to provide," explained William K. Laidlaw, Jr., executive vice president of
AACSB, a co-host organization for the event.
Held only twice a decade, the Global Forum on Management Education is an
intense four-day event for academic, corporate and political leaders from
around the world to come together and discuss the 21st century political,
economic and technological trends affecting management education.
Perceiving financial resources for travel as a potential "boundary" for
many institutions in developing economies, AACSB sought support for the
fellowship program from corporations and institutions affiliated with other
aspects of the Forum. Citibank was one of the first corporations to step
forward as a fellowship sponsor.
"The theme of the Global Forum is 'Learning Without Boundaries.' As such,
we felt that it was particularly important to help secure a strong presence of
delegates from institutions around the world, particularly those representing
emerging economies," said Peter C. Thorp, vice president of corporate
university relations and education programs for Citibank North America.
Valuing diversity as a key component of the Forum, Motorola sponsored
travel fellowships to 25 individuals representing a total of 12 different
countries.
"The Global Forum provides an extraordinary opportunity for management
educators to meet and exchange ideas in preparation for the new millennium.
As a global organization, we see immense value in including as many
individuals as possible from as diverse regions as possible in this event,"
said William Wiggenhorn, Motorola's senior vice president of education and
training and president of Motorola University.
Wiggenhorn serves as co-chair for the Global Forum along with
Carlos Cavalle, dean, IESA, The International Graduate School of Management of
the University of Navarra in Spain; Richard Boulton, managing partner -
strategy and planning, Arthur Andersen; and B. Joseph White, dean,
The University of Michigan Business School.
AACSB anticipates that 50 percent of the expected 2,000 Global Forum
participants will come from outside the United States. AACSB fellowship
recipients represent such countries as Nigeria, Russia, Kenya, Egypt, Jamaica,
Nepal, India, China, Malawi, Tanzania, Slovenia, Estonia, Poland, Ghana,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Mexico, Thailand and Kazakhstan.
Other Global Forum co-host organizations include: the Association of
Deans of Southeast Asian Graduate Schools of Management (ADSGM), the Canadian
Federation of Business School Deans (CFBSD) and the European Foundation for
Management Development (efmd). In addition, 15 other management education
associations worldwide also are affiliated with the event.
