James River Names Kurlancheek to Head Market Research

    RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- James River Corporation (NYSE: JR)
announced today that Gary Kurlancheek, 42, has been named as vice president,
market research.  He will be responsible for all market research activities in
North America and Europe.  Previously, this position had been vacant.
    Prior to joining James River, Mr. Kurlancheek held a number of market
research management positions in the consumer products industry.  Most
recently, he was responsible for the market research for several key brands
including Old El Paso and Progresso of The Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis,
Minn.  From 1991 to 1995, he served as vice president, market research, at Pet
Inc.
    Mr. Kurlancheek began his career at General Mills where he progressed
through several management positions to become head of market research for the
Red Lobster Restaurant Division in 1989.

brands and products, is an essential ingredient in our efforts to strengthen

    Mr. Kurlancheek is a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.  He holds a bachelor's of
arts degree from Oberlin College, and a master's of business administration
from Carnegie Mellon University.
