COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard J. Lehmann, President and
Chief Operating Officer of Banc One Corporation (NYSE: ONE), announced that
Ronald G. Steinhart, currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bank
One, Texas, NA, has been named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Banc
One's National Commercial Banking Group.  Terry Kelly, 53, currently President
and Chief Operating Officer of Bank One, Texas, NA, replaces Steinhart as
chief executive officer responsible for Bank One in Texas and Oklahoma.
    In this new position, Steinhart will be responsible for management of all
aspects of the Commercial Bank including sales management, product
development, distribution, and risk management.  The regional corporate
banking chief executive officers headquartered in Columbus, Dallas,
Indianapolis, Phoenix and Baton Rouge will report to Steinhart, who in turn
will report to Lehmann.
    Lehmann said, "Ron has an exceptional track record as a commercial banker
and has a wealth of experience, including going through some particularly
difficult times in Texas banking.  He is an ideal person to head up our
National Commercial Banking Group."  Steinhart will assume his new
responsibilities immediately.  He will continue to be headquartered in Dallas.
    Steinhart, 56, has been active in the Dallas financial community for more
than 30 years.  He was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Bank
One, Texas in November 1992, after Team Bank merged with Banc One Corporation.
He was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1995 and assumed
regional responsibilities for Banc One Corporation's affiliate banks in the
western United States in 1996.  He is a graduate of the University of Texas in
1962 and earned a master's degree in finance in 1963.  Steinhart is deeply
involved on a wide range of community boards and other activities and has
received a wide range of outstanding community and educational achievement
awards.
    Banc One Corporation had assets of $98.6 billion and common equity of
$8.2 billion at September 30, 1996 and operates 1,503 banking offices.  Banc
