EATONTOWN, N.J., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Roberts Pharmaceutical Corporation
(Nasdaq: RPCX) announced today an exclusive license from Wyeth Laboratories,
U.K., a subsidiary of American Home Products, to market and distribute Lodine
in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The agreement includes
Lodine SR, a patent protected, once-a-day formulation of this prescription
analgesic.
Lodine is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug indicated for acute and
long-term use in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The product line
has an established base of revenues and profits in the U.K., but is not
currently marketed in the Republic of Ireland. The marketing of Lodine by
Roberts has already begun in the U.K and plans are being put in place for the
future launch in the Republic of Ireland.
Lodine fits strategically into the product portfolio of Monmouth
Pharmaceutical, Roberts wholly owed U.K. based subsidiary. Monmouth currently
markets Meptid, an analgesic acquired from Wyeth at year-end 1991 for the U.K.
and Ireland. "Through its own sales force, Monmouth has tripled its sales of
Meptid", noted John T. Spitznagel, Roberts Executive Vice President of World
Wide Sales and Marketing. "Lodine represents a significant potential for our
European operations given product synergies and the marketing momentum
Monmouth has established in the area of analgesics".
Roberts Pharmaceutical Corporation is an international pharmaceutical
company focusing on the acquisition and development of late-stage drugs.
Roberts currently markets its products in seven countries and has operating
subsidiaries in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom.
