ATLANTA, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Preferred Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: PFNT)
(PNI), a wireless carrier's carrier and one of the largest wholesalers of
paging network services, today announced that it has completed the previously
announced acquisition of Mercury Paging & Communications, Inc. and its
affiliated companies. Mercury Paging is a New York-based paging operator that
provides coverage of exclusive radio common carrier 931.3125 MHz paging
licenses throughout New Jersey, New York, and Southern Connecticut primarily
through reseller distribution.
PNI is an outsourcing services provider to the wireless industry,
primarily operating wholesale paging networks, and also offering
engineering/technical services and wireless equipment repair, sales, and
fulfillment. The Company has five of its planned ten Technical Control
Centers (TCCs) in operation. As of September 30, 1996, PNI served 18 markets
and had 313,270 units in service on its networks or under agency agreement.
Network construction is underway in 26 new markets as a part of the Company's
plans to build its 157.740 MHz network nationwide.
