ImmuLogic Reduces Workforce as Part of its Focus on ALLERVAX Candidates

WALTHAM, Mass., June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- ImmuLogic Pharmaceutical
Corporation (Nasdaq: IMUL) announced today that it has reduced its workforce
and restructured its operations in accordance with its stated intent to focus
development efforts on the ALLERVAX(R) allergy program. This plan to
concentrate resources on the lead ALLERVAX(R) CAT and ALLERVAX(R) RAGWEED
product candidates was announced at the recent Annual Meeting of Stockholders
on May 13, 1997.
"We regret the need to eliminate positions within the Company," said
Joseph Marr, M.D., Chief Operating Officer of ImmuLogic. "However, with these
changes, we will bring the level of staffing into conformance with our more
focused business objectives and advance our lead product candidates in the
most rapid and fiscally responsible manner. Our immediate objective is to
complete our discussions with the FDA in order to initiate the next ALLERVAX
RAGWEED product trial this summer and to move forward as soon as possible
thereafter with the ALLERVAX CAT program."
Positions were eliminated throughout all departments of the Company and at
all levels of the organization. The 28% reduction, or 39 positions, leaves
the company with 94 full-time employees. In addition to this general
reduction in workforce, ImmuLogic is implementing cost-containment procedures
within each department to further extend the financial resources
available to the company. Following a one-time expense of approximately
$650,000, which will be reported on the June 30, 1997 second quarter income
statement, it is anticipated that this workforce reduction will result in a
savings of approximately $2.6 million on an annualized basis. ImmuLogic
reported a net loss, for the first quarter of 1997 ended March 31, of
approximately $6 million. The Company's cash and investment balance at March
31, 1997 was approximately $63 million.
ImmuLogic Pharmaceutical Corporation is a biopharmaceutical company,
located in Waltham, Massachusetts, which creates, develops, and intends to
