California State Library Awards GRC International Contract to Establish Statewide Serials Service Bureau

VIENNA, Vienna, Va. June 20 /PRNewswire/ -- GRC International (NYSE: GRH)
announced today it has been awarded a contract by The California State Library
to operate the Statewide Serials Service Bureau. The bureau will manage a
major public library-oriented database, the California Database for Serials
(CDB-S). GRCI will process bibliographic data from 800 California libraries
and coordinate the merger of CDB-S into a unified database combining the
public library holdings with those of the two other major statewide serials
lists in California.
GRCI provides a strong foundation for the Statewide Serials Service
Bureau. As the first service bureau for libraries in California, GRCI
developed a database system and automated cataloging procedures for the Los
Angeles County Library System. Vickie Blades, Library Systems Director &
Service Bureau Project Director for GRCI, said, "Our extensive experience in
library automation combined with our corporate dedication to excellence, have
given GRCI stability and longevity. We are excited about fulfilling the long-
sought goal of a single, integrated database of bibliographic and location
information of serials for all California library users."
Jay Cunningham, serials project monitor for the California State Library,
said, "GRCI's Library Systems brings a record of established and proven
performance in the bibliographic market to the serials project. GRCI has
delivered products and services to all types of libraries and is well
positioned to assume responsibility for the CDB-S and coordination of unified
access to the three major serials lists in California."
Implementation of the Service Bureau at GRCI has begun. Start-up
activities include moving hardware, software, and related materials to GRCI's
new facility in Santa Barbara. After procedures for capturing records and
updating the CDB-S have been established, GRCI will receive serials records
and holdings reports, and perform data entry and editing. The contract extends
through September 30, 1997, and includes a one-year option. The Peninsula
Library System, San Mateo, Calif., is administering the contract.
GRC International Inc., with headquarters in Vienna, Va., provides
knowledge-based professional services and high-quality technology-based
product solutions to government and commercial customers. GRCI is a publicly
traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol GRH.
