Novell, Sun Microsystems Among Early Customers
OTTAWA, Canada, June 30 /PRNewswire/ - Fulcrum Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:
FULCF; TSE: FUL) today announced the immediate commercial availability of
Fulcrum(R) SearchBuilder(TM) for Java(TM), a tool that allows developers to
create custom applications that access the market-leading
information-retrieval software, Fulcrum SearchServer(TM). Fulcrum's newest
development product allows Java developers to create multi-platform,
standards-based solutions - for customer care, best practices, publishing, and
other applications that require robust underlying search software - like the
applications currently being implemented at Novell, Inc. and Sun Microsystems,
Inc.
``Fulcrum has provided us with a tool that allows us to make the Novell
Support Connection Web site even more powerful in connecting customers and
partners to technical support information from Novell,'' said Tom Best, vice
president of Novell's Worldwide Support Services and Product Planning
division. ``Novell Support Connection has been recognized as one of the best
support sites on the Internet, and we are committed to maintaining a
leadership position in the delivery of support information via the Web quickly
and easily. Fulcrum's powerful search software helps us fulfill that
commitment. SearchBuilder for Java and the latest version of SearchServer
give us the flexibility to upgrade our site with additional technologies to
provide Novell customers and partners with answers to their technical
questions even more quickly and easily. The use of Java in the application we
are building with Fulcrum's products provides us with the portability and
flexibility we require.''
Sun Microsystems has been using Fulcrum to index an in-house, online
database of marketing and reference documentation. Sun has engaged Claremont
Technology Group to create an application that will publish a subset of the
Fulcrum-indexed marketing information, along with additional information in
Oracle repositories, to the Internet community. ``We have been able to use
Fulcrum SearchBuilder for Java to get access to Sun Microsystem's existing
Fulcrum-indexed documents with JDBC calls,'' said Russell R. Castagnaro,
senior technical architect at Claremont. ``Within three days of receiving the
package we had access to our documents. It easily saved us over 15 days of
work.''
``This is the first Java developers' toolkit for building knowledge
management and retrieval applications,'' said Mike Laginski, president and
chief operating officer of Fulcrum. ``It provides our customers with more
flexibility in their Web-based applications, which will help us strengthen our
leadership position for rich knowledge access applications.''
Based on the JDBC standard, SearchBuilder for Java allows developers to
build advanced, fully customized Web-based applications that leverage the
strengths of Java and Fulcrum's proven information-retrieval software.
Line-of-business applications created with Fulcrum SearchBuilder for Java can
be connected to Fulcrum's Intranet product, the Fulcrum Knowledge Network(TM).
