ATLANTA, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Fuqua Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: FQE), today
announced that it had entered into a Letter of Intent to acquire Prism
Enterprises, Inc., for approximately $19.5 million in cash.  Prism
manufactures therapeutic heat and cold packs for the medical and consumer
markets and vacuum pumps for obstetrical and other applications.  Prism has
annual sales of approximately $13 million.
    Lawrence P. Klamon, President of Fuqua, said, "The addition of Prism to
our medical products group will broaden our products lines and provide us with
additional experienced health care industry management."  Mr. Klamon said that
on a pro forma basis, Prism would have added to Fuqua's earnings per share in
1996.  He noted that the addition of Prism will bring Fuqua's medical products
sales to over $100 million annually.
    Fuqua's medical products group manufactures a variety of products,
including beds, patient aids and mobility products, for the home health care,
extended care and acute care markets.  Fuqua entered the health care market
with the acquisition of Atlanta-based Basic American Medical Products, Inc.,
in 1995 and expanded its health care sales with the acquisition of the medical
products division of Lumex, Inc., in April 1996.  Fuqua also produces a broad
line of leathers that are sold to manufacturers of shoes, handbags, personal
leather goods and furniture in both the U.S. and foreign markets.
