Preferred Networks Expands Network Services Through Agreement with Metrocall

    ATLANTA, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Preferred Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: PFNT)
(PNI), a wireless carrier's carrier and one of the largest wholesalers of
paging network services, today announced that it has interconnected with
Metrocall, Inc. (Nasdaq: MCLL) to allow PNI to sell to its customer base
Metrocall's nationwide messaging services on two 900 MHz frequencies.
    "With these additional frequencies and use of Metrocall's nationwide
coverage, we are able to offer our customer base a more comprehensive service
package at very competitive prices," said PNI Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer Mark H. Dunaway.  "All PNI customers will be able to activate and
provide nationwide paging services on any PNI paging number."
    Metrocall, Inc., headquartered in Alexandria, Va. (Metropolitan
Washington, D.C), offers paging and wireless messaging in all 50 states and in
over 1,000 cities through its nationwide network to over 2 million
subscribers.
    PNI is an outsourcing services provider to the wireless industry,
primarily operating wholesale paging networks, and also offering
engineering/technical services and wireless equipment repair, sales, and
fulfillment.  The company has five of its planned ten Technical Control
Centers (TCCs) in operation. As of September 30, 1996, PNI serves 18 markets
and has 313,270 units in service on its networks or under agency agreement.
Network construction is underway in 26 new markets as a part of the company's
plans to build its 157.740 MHz network nationwide.
