American General Names Reddick Vice Chairman of the Franklin Life Insurance Company

    HOUSTON, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- American General Corporation (NYSE: AGC)
today announced that Gary D. Reddick has been named to the newly created
position of vice chairman of The Franklin Life Insurance Company, American
General's Springfield, Illinois-based life insurance subsidiary.  He joins
Robert J. Gibbons, president and chief executive officer, in Franklin's office
of the chairman.  In addition to his responsibilities at Franklin Life,
Reddick will manage the insurance center integration activities for the
Independent Producer and General Agent Division of American General's life
insurance segment.
    Reddick, 46, joined American General in 1986 and has served in a variety
of senior management positions with American General Life Insurance Company in
Houston before being named senior vice president-administration of the parent
company in 1994.  Most recently, he served as executive vice president-
administration of Franklin Life.  Reddick began his 23-year financial services
career with the Florida Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company.  A native of
Gainesville, Florida, he received a B.B.A. degree in finance from Stetson
University in 1972.  He is a Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and a
Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU).
