ARCO Chemical Announces Appointments as Part of New Business Organization

    NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCO Chemical Company
(NYSE: RCM) has announced several executive appointments as part of a new
business structure created to accelerate the company's commercial growth.  In
making the announcement, Marvin O. Schlanger, Executive Vice President and
Chief Operating Officer, said:
    "Our goal is to improve ARCO Chemical's profitability and to grow further
in selected global markets.  Each of the individuals running the new units has
a unique set of strengths that will help us continue our success."
    Alan D. Kornfeld, Vice President, will assume worldwide management
responsibility for Basic Chemicals, which includes the company's core product,
propylene oxide (PO), PO co-products MTBE and styrene monomer, propylene
glycol, deicers, and others.  Kornfeld, 54, recently was in charge of
acquiring new isocyanates businesses, and previously was responsible for the
company's plastics business.  He joined an ARCO Chemical predecessor company
in 1964.
    Lyndon Stanton, Vice President, will head the worldwide Urethanes
Business, which includes slab and molded polyols and TDI (toluene
diisocyanate).  He also will continue as president of the company's European
operations, headquartered in Maidenhead, England.  Stanton, 54, has been with
ARCO Chemical since 1979.
    Edward Dineen, Vice President, will be responsible for Performance
Chemicals, Business Development and New Business R&D.  This business unit will
lead the company's efforts to find new opportunities for specialty urethanes
and performance chemicals and have responsibility for several product lines,
including CASE polyols, butanediol and derivatives, solvents and ADI
(aliphatic diisocyanate).  The unit also will be responsible for most product
R&D.  Dineen, 42, has been with the company since 1977 and most recently was
responsible for co-products and raw materials.
    Dan Mariano has been appointed Vice President, Supply Chain Management, a
new segment that combines worldwide raw material supply, purchasing,
logistics, and customer support.  Mariano, 53, joined a predecessor company in
1968 and has served in a variety of management positions at ARCO Chemical.
