Branches and Banc One to Provide Other Financial Products at MBE Centers

COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Banc One (NYSE: ONE) will install
ATMs in Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) (Nasdaq: MAIL) Centers throughout the United
States as part of a new strategic relationship announced today between the
$101.8 billion asset bank and the world's largest franchiser of neighborhood
postal, business and communications Centers.
"MBE's network of Centers is a unique platform for the efficient
distribution of a wide array of services to the most desirable consumer and
small business markets," said James H. Amos, Jr., MBE's president and chief
operating officer. "Our new partnership with Banc One, a recognized leader
and innovator in the banking industry, has profound implications for the
future of retail banking, as MBE provides customers with convenient access to
high quality financial services at MBE Centers."
"This convergence of postal, business and communications services with
financial services reflects the importance of the small-office and home-office
markets to both Banc One and MBE, and is another example of our commitment to
provide all customers with the services they need to achieve their financial
goals," said Kenneth T. Stevens, chairman and chief executive officer of Banc
One's Retail Group. "We are very interested in expanding our business banking
presence throughout the country. MBE Centers attract many small business
customers that make them a perfect fit for us."
The Banc One ATMs at MBE Centers, in addition to providing traditional ATM
services, can also be used to sell convenience retail products such as
pre-paid phone cards and postage stamps. Plans call for a total of 2,000 Banc
One ATMs to be installed at MBE Centers, with the first thousand units in
place by the end of this year. MBE and Banc One are currently developing the
criteria and agreements to determine the participating MBE Centers.
Banc One and MBE also have agreed to pilot the offering of additional
financial services in selected MBE Centers, featuring Automated Loan Machines,
interactive video banking, and an area where business bankers can meet with
clients. As part of this pilot program, modified MBE Centers also will be
established in selected Banc One branches.
MBE has more than 3,300 Centers worldwide, including nearly 2,700 in the
United States. Each MBE Center is independently owned and operated. MBE
Centers offer a wide range of business and communication services, including
