Knowledge Activator Provides Seamless Integration With Domino Server
And Lotus Notes As Key Part Of Enterprise Knowledge Infrastructure
OTTAWA, Canada, Mar. 10 /PRNewswire/ - Fulcrum Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:
FULCF; TSE: FUL) today announced an integration with Lotus Notes from its new
suite of knowledge networking products - The Fulcrum(R) Knowledge Network(TM).
The integration gives Fulcrum users access to Lotus Notes repositories
distributed across an organization, and provides a Knowledge Map that links
these repositories with other corporate knowledge assets, in file systems, Web
servers, or data sources. The Knowledge Activator for Lotus Notes, as with
other data connectors provided for the Fulcrum Knowledge Network, is fully
automatic and easy to administer. Along with the Knowledge Server, Knowledge
Activators seamlessly bridge multiple information sources to create a new
paradigm in computing, one that Fulcrum calls ``knowledge networking.''
Fulcrum's new family of products will be demonstrated at Spring Internet
World, at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles, March 12-14, 1997, at
Fulcrum's booth, 5022.
``Fulcrum is carving out a leadership position on a new software frontier,
in providing a single point of access to the myriad sources of corporate
intelligence,'' said Jeff Papows, president of Lotus Development Corporation.
``Fulcrum's decision to support Lotus Notes with the first version of its new
product acknowledges Notes' place in the market as a key corporate repository
for strategic information assets. The fact that Fulcrum's implementation
respects the characteristics of underlying Notes applications - by respecting
Notes' security and access controls, for instance - is a tremendous advantage
for administrators who need to provide seamless access to information from
multiple sources, while protecting ongoing investments in the different areas
of their organizations.''
``Lotus is a dominant player in the collaborative computing market because
Notes is an optimal way to share, gather, and disseminate strategic
information,'' said Mike Laginski, Fulcrum's president and chief operating
officer. ``Our product adds value, by linking together the important
information sources in an organization - Web servers, file systems, document
management applications, collaborative computing platforms - and by providing
flexibility in a package that is easy for users and administrators alike. What
we add to the underlying applications, including Lotus Notes, is a unified
Knowledge Map, that crosses the boundaries of specific applications or
environments, to provide a comprehensive picture of corporate intellectual
assets. That, in combination with our advanced information-retrieval
capabilities, provides users with meaningful access to strategic knowledge.''
ABOUT THE FULCRUM KNOWLEDGE NETWORK
The Fulcrum Knowledge Network is a unique, integrated product that
intelligently connects diverse information sources across the enterprise. The
comprehensive offering leverages a Web-centric, distributed architecture to
provide a single window of access to disparate sources of corporate
information from any Fulcrum Knowledge Network client.
- At the client level, the Knowledge Desktop can be any Web-browser, a
Web-browser enhanced with ActiveX controls for enhanced viewing, or a
Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook client. Using the Knowledge
Builder Toolkit, which contains a rich Object Library and the Fulcrum
WebFIND! query application, developers can create custom Microsoft
Windows or Web-based clients for specific business applications.
- At the application layer, the Knowledge Server is the heart of the
Fulcrum Knowledge Network. It provides the searching and indexing
services that integrate the multiple, distributed information sources.
The searching service dynamically constructs a personalized Knowledge
Map on a per-user basis according to the information sources available
for searching and the user's access rights.
The Fulcrum Knowledge Network works in combination with Netscape Web
servers or Microsoft Internet Information Server to support access
from Web browsers.
Because it is certified to carry the ``Designed for Microsoft
BackOffice'' logo, Fulcrum's product provides all the familiar
benefits of a true, multi-threaded Windows NT server application,
including remote administration, performance monitoring, event
logging, and SMS software installation.
- Finally, Fulcrum provides Knowledge Activators to allow access to
corporate knowledge repositories on multiple servers and running on
multiple platforms, and in sources as diverse as Microsoft Exchange
Server, Lotus Notes, Web sites, file systems, existing Fulcrum
SearchServer(TM) applications and more. Knowledge Activators embrace
diverse information sources and leverage their security models,
compound document architectures and administration profiles.
