Fulcrum Embraces Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0 in New, Integrated Product

One Of Key Information Sources Supported By
                         The Fulcrum Knowledge Network

OTTAWA, Canada, Mar. 10 /PRNewswire/ - Fulcrum Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:
FULCF; TSE: FUL) today announced that its new knowledge networking products,
the Fulcrum(R) Knowledge Network(TM), will embrace Microsoft Exchange Server
5.0 as a key corporate information source. The integration gives Fulcrum
users access to Microsoft Exchange Server folders and mailboxes distributed
across an organization - from Web browsers as well as from Microsoft Exchange
and Microsoft Outlook clients - and provides unified access to these
repositories and other corporate knowledge assets in file systems, in Lotus
Notes databases, on Web servers, and more. Fulcrum's new family of products
will be demonstrated at Spring Internet World, at the LA Convention Center in
Los Angeles, March 12- 14, 1997, at Fulcrum's booth (5022) and in the
Microsoft ActiveX Pavilion (booth 700) at the same show.
The Knowledge Activator for Microsoft Exchange Server is automatically
synchronized with Microsoft Exchange Server, preserves user access rights, and
is easy to administer. Along with the Knowledge Server, Knowledge Activators
seamlessly bridge multiple information sources to create a new paradigm in
computing, one that Fulcrum calls ``knowledge networking.''
``Fulcrum's new product builds on the strong foundation established by
Fulcrum FIND!, Fulcrum's first product for Microsoft Exchange Server,'' said
Greg Lobdell, Group Product Manager for Microsoft messaging products. ``They
have taken an underlying architecture that was strong, tested internally at
Microsoft, and they opened it up to a broader range of information sources, to
present a compelling, value-added offering. Fulcrum continues to work closely
with us to ensure that the next generation of its products embrace the latest
version of Microsoft Exchange Server, and that we continue to offer
complementary products that benefit all of our customers.''
``We are able to leverage the strengths of Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0
in delivering the next generation of our own products,'' said Mike Laginski,
president and chief operating officer at Fulcrum. ``Our experience with our
first product for Microsoft Exchange Server helped us to understand and
exploit the strengths of Microsoft Windows NT as an application server, and
the importance of providing a seamless integration between our own products
and Microsoft Corp.'s, to lighten the load for administrators. Microsoft
Exchange 5.0 provides even more richness for ISVs to work with and build upon,
and a Web-enabled product architecture that is easier than ever for us to
leverage.''

    ABOUT THE FULCRUM KNOWLEDGE NETWORK
The Fulcrum Knowledge Network is a unique, integrated product that
intelligently connects diverse information sources across the enterprise. The
comprehensive offering leverages a Web-centric, distributed architecture to
provide a single window of access to disparate sources of corporate
information from any Fulcrum Knowledge Network client.

    - At the client level, the Knowledge Desktop can be any Web-browser, a
Web-browser enhanced with ActiveX controls for enhanced viewing, or a
Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Outlook client. Using the Knowledge
Builder Toolkit, which contains a rich Object Library and the Fulcrum
WebFIND! query application, developers can create custom Microsoft
Windows or Web-based clients for specific business applications.

    - At the application layer, the Knowledge Server is the heart of the
Fulcrum Knowledge Network. It provides the searching and indexing
services that integrate the multiple, distributed information sources.
The searching service dynamically constructs a personalized Knowledge
Map on a per-user basis according to the information sources available
for searching and the user's access rights.

The Fulcrum Knowledge Network works in combination with Netscape Web
servers or Microsoft Internet Information Server to support access
       from Web browsers.

Because it is certified to carry the ``Designed for Microsoft
BackOffice'' logo, Fulcrum's product provides all the familiar
benefits of a true, multi-threaded Windows NT server application,
including remote administration, performance monitoring, event
       logging, and SMS software installation.

    - Finally, Fulcrum provides Knowledge Activators to allow access to
corporate knowledge repositories on multiple servers and running on
multiple platforms, and in sources as diverse as Microsoft Exchange
Server, Lotus Notes, Web sites, file systems, existing Fulcrum
SearchServer(TM) applications and more. Knowledge Activators embrace
diverse information sources and leverage their security models,
compound document architectures and administration profiles.

KNOWLEDGE ACTIVATOR FOR MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER - KEY USER BENEFITS
    - Fully synchronized with Microsoft Exchange Server, so that users can
search and retrieve the most up-to-date information, and for simple
       administration.
    - Advanced information-retrieval software provided by the industry
       leader.
    - Microsoft Exchange Server security is preserved, for administrative
       simplicity.
    - Searching on compound information (object within object searching) in
Microsoft Exchange Server, to allow searching of messages and their
attachments, for example and have them retrieved together.
    - Fielded-searching. The Knowledge Activator for Microsoft Exchange
Server ensures that the Knowledge Server maintains an attribute store
that inherits the MAPI properties from Microsoft Exchange.
       Custom properties are also supported.
    - Support for multiple clients - Users can tap into the multiple
information sources indexed in the Fulcrum Knowledge Network with
Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook clients, with Web browsers,
including Microsoft Internet Explorer, and with custom Web and Windows
       clients.
