Preferred Networks Opens Northwest Technical Center

6th Technical Control Center in Paging Network Build-Out Nationwide

ATLANTA, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Preferred Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: PFNT)
(PNI), an outsourcing services provider to the wireless industry and one of
the largest carrier's carriers of exclusively wholesale one-way paging network
services, today announced the completion of its Northwest Technical Control
Center (TCC) in Renton, Washington, which is in the greater Seattle,
Washington area. The new TCC, providing service to Washington, Oregon, Idaho
and Montana, is the sixth of ten that PNI plans to build throughout the U.S.
PNI's regional TCCs allow for centralized network operations that are
capable of supporting multiple paging channels. The TCCs function as
switching centers, housing paging terminals, satellite up-links, and network
monitoring systems.
"We designed the TCC platform so that we can centrally control multiple
local paging networks, maximizing system efficiency and effectiveness," said
Eugene Kreeft, Executive Vice President of Engineering. "While primarily
operating on the 157.740 MHz frequency, the TCCs are capable of supporting
additional frequencies. The Northwest TCC will enable us to begin to operate
our first paging networks on the West Coast. With six TCCs in operation and
three under construction, we are on schedule to complete our build-out
nationwide of 157.740 MHz by early 1998."
PNI's Georgia-based TCC serves as the Southeast control point for paging
networks in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina.
It also functions as PNI's central monitoring station for all TCCs. A Remote
Point of Presence (R-POP) in Orlando serves the Florida networks. PNI's Mid-
Atlantic TCC, located in Laurel, Maryland, manages paging networks in southern
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The Northeast TCC provides service in Boston, New York City, upper New Jersey,
Rhode Island, south New Hampshire, Connecticut and upstate New York. The
Midwest TCC, located in the Chicago area serves Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana,
Missouri and Minnesota. Located in the Detroit area, the North Central TCC
manages networks in Michigan and Ohio.
Preferred Networks, Inc., headquartered in metropolitan Atlanta, provides
paging networks and other outsourcing solutions to the wireless industry which
allow companies to offer branded wireless services directly to subscribers,
while relying on PNI to provide high-quality network, technical and product
services. PNI offers its services through its wholesale paging networks as
one of the largest carrier's carriers, and through its wholly owned
subsidiaries: Preferred Technical Services, which provides paging network
equipment installation, maintenance and engineering services, and EPS
Wireless, which is one of the five largest repair facilities providing paging
and cellular product repair, sales and fulfillment services. PNI's address on
