Franklin Quest Co. Announces Record Sales and Earnings For Second Quarter

    SALT LAKE CITY, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Franklin Quest (NYSE: FNQ)
reported today record sales and earnings for the second quarter ended February
28, 1997.  Sales for the quarter increased 13% to $106.0 million from $93.6
million, an increase of $12.4 million over the same quarter in fiscal 1996.
Earnings for the second quarter increased to $13.0 million compared to $12.8
million in the comparable quarter of fiscal 1996.  Earnings per share for the
second quarter of fiscal 1997 were $0.63 per share compared to $0.57 per share
for the second quarter of fiscal 1996.
    Product sales reached a record level of $80.2 million, up 12% from the
comparable quarter last year.  The Company opened two new stores during the
quarter to total 95 stores with plans to open an additional 12 to 15 stores
during the remainder of fiscal 1997.  Comparable store sales increased 7% for
the quarter ended February 28, l997.  Training sales increased 21% during the
quarter to reach $20.6 million compared to the same quarter last year.
Included in Training sales was $3.4 million from TrueNorth, now Franklin Quest
Personal Coaching, an acquisition effective October 1, 1996.  Services sales
were $5.1 million for the quarter compared to $5.0 million in the comparable
quarter last year.
    Sales and earnings for the first six months of fiscal 1997 increased 12%
and 1% respectively.  Sales for the first six months were $208.3 million, an
increase of $22.9 million over the same period of fiscal 1996.  Earnings
increased to $26.1 million, compared to $25.8 million for the first six months
of fiscal 1996.  Earnings per share for the first six months of fiscal 1997
were $1.25 compared to $1.14 per share for the same period of fiscal 1996.
