EVEREN Securities Adds Five New Executives To Its Institutional Equity Sales Group

     CHICAGO,  May 19, 1997 -- EVEREN Securities, Inc. today announced the
addition of five new senior vice presidents to its institutional equity sales
group as part of the firm's effort to grow its capital markets business.
Since the beginning of the year, EVEREN has added two executives from Dean
Witter, one from PaineWebber and another from Dresdner Securities, and
promoted John K. Lane to manager of its institutional research sales
department.
     Joining Lane are Raymond S. Barnhart in Chicago, G. Dewey Moser and
Thomas A. Boland in New York and Deborah Buckley Hope in Boston.  In addition,
Thomas F. Walsh, III has joined EVEREN in San Francisco as part of the
institutional sales/trading group headed by Senior Vice President Kevin D.
Boylan.

    Institutional sales/trading - Chicago
    Lane, a senior vice president, joined EVEREN in 1988 from E.F. Hutton.  In
the business for more than 30 years, he previously spent 10 years on the
buyside before assignments with Salomon Brothers and Oppenheimer.  Lane
received an MBA from the University of Michigan and a bachelor's degree from
Brown University.
    Barnhart joined EVEREN from Dean Witter Reynolds in Chicago, where he was
senior vice president and manager of midwestern institutional equities.
Previously, he was a first vice president at Blyth Eastman Dillon and prior to
that was in institutional equity sales with Loeb Rhoades, Jas. J. Oliphant,
F.S. Smithers and Eastman Dillon.  Barnhart is a graduate of Western Illinois
University.
    Institutional sales/trading - Eastern Region
    Moser also joined EVEREN from Dean Witter, where he was senior vice
president of institutional equity sales in New York.  Previously, he was a
vice president at Auerbach Pollak & Richardson and prior to that was in
institutional sales at Faulkner Dawkins & Sullivan and Lombard Vitalis
Paganucci & Nelson.  Moser received an MBA from New York University and a
bachelor's degree from Brown University.
    Boland joined EVEREN from Dresdner Securities in New York, where he was
vice president of institutional services.  Previously, he was senior vice
president of institutional sales at Dominick & Dominick in New York and prior
to that was in corporate finance with Metropolitan Life Insurance and St.
Regis Corporation.  Boland received an MBA and a bachelor's degree from
Fordham University.
    In February, Hope joined EVEREN from PaineWebber, where she was senior
vice president of institutional equity sales in Boston.  Previously, she was a
senior vice president at Credit Lyonnais Securities and prior to that was in
institutional equity sales with Barclays de Zoete Wedd and Drexel Burnham
Lambert.  Hope received an MBA from Boston College and a bachelor's degree
from Stonehill College.
    Institutional sales/trading - Western Region
    Walsh joined EVEREN in March from Dean Witter's San Francisco office,
where he was senior institutional sales trader.  Previously, he was trading
manager of E.F. Hutton's San Francisco office and prior to that was in sales
and trading with Sutro & Co., KBS, Inc., ABD Securities, Donaldson, Lufkin &
Jenrette and White Weld & Co.  Walsh received a master's degree from the New
York Institute of Finance and a bachelor's degree from Valley College in San
Bernadino.
