EDISON, N.J. Aug. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- KCS Energy, Inc. (NYSE: KCS) today
announced the resignation of William E. Warnock, Jr. as President of KCS
Medallion Resources, Inc. Mr. Warnock formerly was President, Chief Executive
Officer and a Director of InterCoast Oil and Gas Company, which was acquired
by KCS effective December 31, 1996 and renamed KCS Medallion Resources, Inc.
Mr. Warnock plans to form a new oil and gas company with the aid of a private
investment group.
Commenting on the resignation, KCS Energy, Inc. President and Chief
Executive Officer, James W. Christmas, said, "We are, of course, disappointed
to lose an executive of Mr. Warnock's caliber. Under his guidance, Medallion
grew from a startup in 1985 to a market value of nearly $200 million by late
1996. He is a very capable oil and gas executive with an outstanding track
record of success. We look forward to our organizations working together on
future oil and gas transactions."
According to Mr. Christmas, "Clear evidence of Mr. Warnock's management
skills are the depth and quality of the Medallion organization he is leaving
behind. Over the past years, Mr. Warnock has assembled a top-flight oil and
gas team headed by Gene C. Daley, Senior Vice President, Production, and
J. Chris Jacobsen, Senior Vice President, Exploration, Development and
Reserves, both of whom will remain with KCS. These executives will share
Mr. Warnock's responsibilities until a successor can be named from within the
organization.
Mr. Daley, age 47, joined InterCoast Oil and Gas in 1991 and served as
Senior Vice President, Exploration and Development, and Vice President and
General Manager of Oil and Gas. His association with InterCoast began with
the acquisition by InterCoast of Carter Resources, Inc., an independent oil
and gas producer, where he served as President from its inception in 1974
until its acquisition in 1991. Prior to that, Mr. Daley was an offshore
exploration geologist for Texaco, Inc. Mr. Daley graduated in 1972 from the
South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree
with honors in Geological Engineering. He is a member of the Oklahoma
Independent Petroleum Association.
Mr. Jacobsen, age 42, joined InterCoast Oil and Gas in 1994 as Vice
President, Reserves and Production, with primary responsibility for overseeing
the engineering and field personnel operating more than 600 wells in
13 states. Formerly, he was a Senior Vice President of Netherland, Sewell
& Associates, where he performed field and well reserve analysis for more than
12 years, and was responsible for four engineering teams and the geological
and geophysical department. His professional career began in 1977 with Exxon
Company U.S.A., where he held various engineering and supervisory assignments
for five years. Mr. Jacobsen graduated from the Rose-Hulman Institute of
