Gardner Denver Machinery Inc. to Build New Manufacturing Facility

QUINCY, Ill., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross J. Centanni, President and CEO
of Gardner Denver Machinery Inc. (Nasdaq: GDMI), has announced that a new
manufacturing facility will be built in the Atlanta, Georgia area and that the
production from its Syracuse, New York operation will be transferred to the
new facility within the next 9-10 months. The project is expected to be
completed by June 30, 1998. In a related move, the Gardner Denver Blower
Division headquarters will also be relocated to the new site in order to
accommodate the Company's strategic growth plans.
Mr. Centanni said that a number of factors influenced the decision to
close the Syracuse facility, which the Company obtained in August 1996 as part
of its acquisition of NORAMPTCO, Inc. Primarily, there has been minimal
capital investment in the facility over the past decade and therefore millions
of dollars would be required to repair and update the multi-level facility.
The new site is also more centrally located to a majority of the Company's
customers.
"Our market place has continued to undergo fundamental changes over the
past several years," Mr. Centanni said. "In order to be competitive, we must
produce our products as efficiently and economically as possible. Making the
decision to close the Syracuse facility was not an easy one and we deeply
regret the impact that the closure will have on our employees."
Gardner Denver, with 1996 revenues of $218 million, is a leading
manufacturer of air compressor and blower products for various industrial
applications and pumps used in oil and gas production and well servicing,
drilling and stimulation.
