BILLERICA, Mass., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Peritus Software Services
(Nasdaq: PTUS), a leading supplier of Year 2000 renovation technology, today
announced an enhancement to the AutoEnhancer/2000 family of Year 2000
renovation products. The AutoEnhancer/2000 technology automates aspects of the
identification of date-sensitive items, correction of the code and generation
of bridges and data conversion programs. The new enhancements to the
AutoEnhancer/2000 Logic Correction technology increase the level of automation
and streamline the user interface for logic correction (windowing), thus
improving throughput. The new version of the AutoEnhancer/2000 software is
available now. The AutoEnhancer/2000 family of products are available
separately or as part of an integrated suite of products designed to help
organizations control and manage the Year 2000 renovation of their
applications.
"This release of the AutoEnhancer/2000 technology will improve the
throughput for our licensees performing windowing-based renovations," said
Doug Catalano, president and COO of Peritus. "We have enabled the renovation
engineer to focus on what is absolutely necessary in performing a logic
correction renovation. This focus, coupled with our high accuracy
identification of date-sensitive items, will enable a team of three renovation
engineers to correct one million lines of code in as little as two weeks."
Logic Correction (Windowing)
In logic correction renovations, applications are enhanced to infer the
century value from the already existing 2-digit year values. Unlike date-
expansion renovations which change the corporate data model by incorporating
larger date data elements, logic correction renovations require significantly
less knowledge about the information system and require no changes to the
data, no increases in storage and no changes to the screens and reports.
Like date-expansion renovations, however, logic correction renovations still
require accurate identification of the date-sensitive items.
"Peritus excels in accurate date-sensitive item identification," said Ted
Swoyer, Peritus' director of marketing communications. "Our knowledge
propagation' technique lets our AutoEnhancer/2000 software identify date-
sensitive items from their use rather then from their names. This minimizes
the false positives and false negatives prevalent with other pattern-matching
and parsing techniques."
AutoEnhancer/2000 Enhancements
"Because the logic correction renovation doesn't require full knowledge
of the information system, Peritus was able to segregate the logic correction
user interface," said Gerald Hogan, Peritus' director of product management.
"We separated the logic correction product from the date-expansion product and
then streamlined it to allow a renovation engineer to perform only those tasks
necessary for this type of renovation."
In addition to separating and enhancing the Logic Correction product,
Peritus has also increased the automation of many of the tasks. "The
renovations that Peritus and our licensees perform, have provided a great deal
of insight into the renovation process," Hogan added. "We constantly look for
practices that can be institutionalized through enhanced automation. This
update to the AutoEnhancer/2000 software includes a number of these
enhancements which will significantly improve factory throughput."
