Cox Interactive Media Launches New Bay Area Web Site BayInsider.com Enters the Market with Sports and Recreation Focus

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- San Francisco Bay Area sports and
recreation fans unite. Today marks the launch of BayInsider.com, a new Web
site offering Bay Area sports and recreation enthusiasts an interactive
gathering place to voice their opinions, share information with each other,
participate in and learn about local sports and recreation events and
activities. BayInsider.com takes a unique, irreverent approach to its
content, which is heavy on humor and attitude, and encourages its users to do
likewise.
The new site speaks to traditional and not-so-traditional sports and
recreation enthusiasts -- from the arm chair quarterback to the avid rock
climber. BayInsider's Insider Sports section features Bay Area spectator
sports and insider information on local college and professional teams. The
Get Out section covers a variety of recreation topics such as inside tips on
local events, the hottest weekend getaways and the best hiking spots.
"The Bay Area has one of the most diverse and rich leisure, sports and
recreation communities in the nation and also ranks number one in Internet
usage. The savvy consumers of the Bay Area deserve a Web site that speaks to
and listens to them. BayInsider.com wants to be local residents' online
neighborhood," said Michael Mimeles, site manager for BayInsider.com.
The content programming staff includes longtime Bay Area sportswriters and
outdoor enthusiasts, William Murray and Jon Rochmis. Both have extensive
knowledge of the region's sports history and have a unique perspective into
Bay Area culture, in addition to knowledge and first hand experience about
local recreation interests.
The site will provide a community environment with varied and proprietary
content divided equally between sports (Insider Sports) and recreation (Get
Out).
BayInsider.com is entering the market with a lifestyle focus on sports and
recreation. However, new content reflecting the BayInsider.com attitude will
evolve in the coming months to include news, lifestyle, entertainment, leisure
activities and topics that reflect the taste and character of the San
Francisco Bay Area.
BayInsider.com has formed partnerships with Bay Area television and radio
stations, KTVU (Channel 2) and KNBR (680 AM), who will contribute in-depth
local content, live sports games and news broadcasts, and information and
opinions from local on-air personalities. In addition, KTVU and KNBR's Web
sites will be integrated into BayInsider.com.
BayInsider.com is operated by Cox Interactive Media (http://www.cimedia.com), a
subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, Inc., which has created several local city
sites such as AccessAtlanta and Austin360. These city sites provide users
with specific information unique to their communities as well as opportunities
for online interaction with other users through community bulletin boards and
chat rooms. Specialty sites like FASTBALL.com and Y'all.com have also been
established to focus on specific topics which have regional or national
appeal. Through the advent of studios like the one established in San
Francisco, Cox Interactive Media will provide vital links between local,
national and worldwide companies.
