COLUMBIA, Md., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq-NNM: GSES), today announced that its GSE Power Systems, Inc.
subsidiary has been awarded contracts totaling approximately $7.5 million to
build and upgrade simulators in Ukraine, Russia and North America:
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), has awarded GSE contracts
valued at over $6 million under the US Department of Energy's international
nuclear safety program aimed at improving the safety of Russian-designed
reactors. Under one of the contracts, GSE will provide the simulation
technology and manage various local Ukrainian companies in building a full-
scope simulator for Unit 3 of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant in western
Ukraine. The other contract involves the development and delivery of a
display-based analytical simulator for the Balakovo Nuclear Power Plant in
Russia.
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission's training center in Chattanooga, TN
has purchased licenses for GSE's SimSuite Power(TM) tool kit. The NRC
operates five simulators which are used to train nuclear plant inspectors and
licensers. GSE's SimSuite Power(TM) provides graphically-based simulation
code generators which enable users to improve the fidelity of the simulation
models in existing simulators and reduce software maintenance costs.
Syncrude Canada Ltd. of Ft. McMurray, Alberta, Canada, has awarded a
contract to GSE for a full-scope training simulator for its Mildred Lake
utility plant. GSE Systems will provide SimSuite Power(TM) running on a
Windows NT(R) Operating System as the underlying simulation technology for the
fossil fired, steam and electrical systems. The utility plant's distributed
control system will be "stimulated" by the GSE simulator to assure maximum
control room fidelity.
"Upon completion of the PNNL contract for Rivne, GSE will have built
simulators for each of the five civilian reactor sites in Ukraine," stated
Jerry Jen, Senior Vice President of GSE Power Systems.
"We are also very pleased to be able to use our SimSuite Power technology
to both extend our long-standing relationship with the NRC as well as to
expand into new relationships with companies like Syncrude," continued Jen.
"These projects reflect the success of the Company's strategy to provide
state-of-the-art simulation tools and technology that are flexible for use in
a variety of simulation applications."
GSE Systems' products are used in over 700 applications, representing over
250 customers in 30 countries, in the following industries: specialty
chemical, food & beverage, petroleum refining, oil & gas, pharmaceutical,
fossil and nuclear power generation, metals, electrical distribution and water
treatment. The Company is headquartered in Columbia, Maryland with offices in
Augusta, GA, Baton Rouge, LA, Houston, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Pittsburgh, PA, Salt
Lake City, UT and Shelby, NC, and its global operations include offices in
Belgium, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Sweden, and Taiwan.
The Company's GSE Power Systems group is a world leader in full-scope
power plant simulation with over 145 full-scope nuclear and fossil plant
simulators delivered in over 20 countries worldwide. GSE Power Systems'
simulators utilize high fidelity real-time software and third party hardware
to replicate all or a portion of the process functions of an industrial plant.
Additionally, they allow customers to train plant personnel, optimize and
validate plant designs, and test process modifications, thereby enhancing the
operational safety of the actual plant.
This news release contains forward-looking statements that involve risks
and uncertainties. The actual future results of GSE Systems may differ
materially due to a number of factors, including but not limited to delays in
introduction of products or enhancements, size and timing of individual
orders, rapid technological changes, market acceptance of new products and
competition. These and other factors are more fully discussed in the
Company's annual report on Form 10-K.
