MONEY ACCESS SERVICE INC. Hits Record High of 109 Million Transactions During Second Quarter
    WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- MONEY ACCESS SERVICE INC.
announced that its MAC(R) EFT network achieved a record high of 109 million
transactions in May and has consecutively hit over the 100 million transaction
mark that it broke in March, for the months of April, May and June.  "The
continued rapid deployment of ATMs in the marketplace and particularly
off-premise locations is the major factor contributing to the increase in
transaction volume," said Phil Valvardi, president of the MAC network.  "We
also continue to experience growth in point-of-sale debit due to the
popularity of consumer use of debit for payments at major retailers like
supermarkets, gas stations and convenience stores," said Valvardi.
    Other highlights for the second quarter include:

    --  ATM volume is up l3% over second quarter l996 with 3l5 million
         transactions total.
    --  POS volume increased 29% over second quarter l996 with 28.4 million
         transactions total.
    --  42 new MAC financial institution members were added to the network
         across l3 states during the second quarter.
    --  Second quarter installations were the highest ever in a three-month
         period with 2,500 ATMs added.
