Deborah L. Oberst Appointed ARCO Chemical Director of Urethanes R&D In The Americas

    NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCO Chemical Company
(NYSE: RCM) has appointed Deborah L. Oberst, Ph.D., Director of Urethanes R&D
with the responsibility of coordinating all Urethanes R&D worldwide, including
direct responsibility for the South Charleston, West Virginia Technical Center
and all Urethanes R&D at the company's main research center in Newtown Square.
    Dr. Oberst had a distinguished 15-year career with GE Plastics and joined
ARCO Chemical in 1994.  Since that time, she has led the company's successful
technical programs to bring high performance polyols into the marketplace.
Polyols are used to make flexible foams for furniture, bedding, and automotive
seating, and as building blocks for coatings, adhesives, and sealants.
    Technology has an ever-increasing importance in the future success of
ARCO Chemical.  Dr. Oberst will work closely with the Newtown Square-based
business centers to identify development opportunities for new urethane
products for non-traditional markets.
    Dr. Oberst is a graduate of Bucknell University and received a doctorate
in physical chemistry from Brown University.
    Deb, her husband, Horst, and children, Lindsay, Leigh, and Kevin, recently
relocated from the Charleston area and now live in Malvern, Pennsylvania.
