NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ --  E. Kent Damon, Jr. has
elected to step down from the ARCO Chemical Board of Directors and Marie L.
Knowles has rejoined the Board after a short absence, it was announced today.
    Damon, 53, is ARCO Senior Vice President and former President of ARCO Asia
Pacific Ltd.  "Kent has served as a valued member of the ARCO Chemical Board
since 1989," said ARCO Chemical President and Chief Executive Officer Alan R.
Hirsig.  "We thank Kent for his counsel and wish him the best in his future
endeavors."
    Knowles is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of
Atlantic Richfield Company ("ARCO") (NYSE: ARC) and a member of the ARCO Board
of Directors.  Previously she was ARCO Senior Vice President and President of
ARCO Transportation Company.  Knowles previously served on the ARCO Chemical
Board of Directors from July 1991 to May 1996.  Knowles also serves on the
Board of Directors of Phelps Dodge Corporation located in Phoenix, Arizona and
is active in a number of civic and philanthropic organizations.

    Knowles is a graduate of the University of Southern California with B.S.
and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering and an MBA in Finance.
    Knowles, 49, lives in South Pasadena, California, with her husband and two
young sons.
