ARLINGTON, Va., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Consolidated Engineering
Services, the engineering and technical services affiliate of the Charles E.
Smith REIT, has been selected to operate and maintain the new 2 million
square-foot Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center located on
Pennsylvania Avenue two blocks from the White House.
Thought to be the largest contract of its kind that the General Services
Administration has ever awarded, the five-year contract is one of
Consolidated's largest. Consolidated will provide a range of building
services, including operations, maintenance and repair of all building systems
and coordination of the tenant alterations for over 1.4 million square-feet to
be occupied by federal tenants and over 500,000 square feet to be occupied by
the private International Trade Center. The massive public/private
development incorporated 90 elevators, 4 escalators, 26 loading docks, 94
stairways and a heating/ventilation/air-conditioning system for 10,000
employees. The International Trade Center houses private sector office space,
a conference center and auditorium, reception areas, retail and exhibition
space, a food court and several restaurants.
Federal tenants scheduled to move in to the building this summer and fall
include: the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID), the U.S. Customs
Service, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. The International Trade Center is projected
to open in the Spring of 1998.
