EVEREN Adds Convertible Research Director, Two New Traders in Equity Capital Markets

    CHICAGO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- EVEREN Securities, Inc. today announced
the appointment of a new director of convertible research and the addition of
two new traders to its Nasdaq/OTC trading desk.
    Richard T. Cunniffe has joined the firm as vice president and director of
convertible research, reporting to Joel C. Falk, managing director of
convertible securities.  Also, two OTC traders, Richard A. Friedman, a vice
president, and Charles R. Spencer, an associate vice president, have been
added to EVEREN's trading operation, reporting to Daniel R. Kravits, senior
vice president and director of Nasdaq/OTC trading.
    "The recent integration of our research, trading, institutional sales and
investment banking functions into client-focused teams is enhancing our
ability to recruit top professionals and deepen an already talented
organization," said Edward E. Dunleavy, executive vice president and
co-director of EVEREN's equity capital markets group.
    Cunniffe joins EVEREN's New York office from Value Line, where he was
director of convertible and option research and vice president of the Value
Line Convertible Fund and Aggressive Income Fund.  He joined Value Line in
1989 as a convertible/options analyst and quickly distinguished himself as an
expert in the highly specialized field.  Cunniffe received a bachelor's degree
from Buffalo State College and a master's degree in investment management from
Pace University in New York City.
    Friedman joins EVEREN from Rodman & Renshaw, where he traded over-the-
counter equities since 1994.  Prior to that, he was an OTC trader with the
Principal Financial Group, which he joined in 1986.  Friedman holds a
bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Illinois.
    Spencer also joins EVEREN from Rodman & Renshaw, where he began his career
as an agency trader.  He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the
University of Colorado.
