Fulcrum Announces Upgrade To Knowledge Network

       Delivers ``Most Manageable Middleware'' For Knowledge Management,
                    With Enhanced Web And Groupware Support

    OTTAWA, Canada, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ - Fulcrum Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:
FULCF; TSE: FUL) today announced the availability of Fulcrum(R) Knowledge
Network(TM) 2.1, adding powerful new functionality to its industry-leading
enterprise knowledge management solution.  Through a single point of access,
the industry's ``most manageable middleware'' for knowledge management
applications intelligently filters, organizes, and manages the knowledge found
in disparate document repositories across the enterprise.  New in this version
of the Knowledge Network is the addition of an advanced crawler and enhanced
support for Lotus Notes/Domino collections, allowing users to search across
multiple Notes databases and servers simultaneously.  This version also
features a customizable Knowledge Map, so that administrators can create
dynamic Knowledge Folders that present networked information sources in a
``business view'' for users.  Knowledge Folders also provide data independence
to allow users and applications to dynamically leverage new information
sources.  The product is commercially available this week.

    The Fulcrum Knowledge Network provides out-of-the-box capabilities that
allow enterprises to build value-added corporate knowledge solutions.
By providing a unified platform for access to a variety of corporate
information sources such as Web sites, file systems, Lotus Notes databases,
Microsoft Exchange stores, legacy applications and much more, documents may be
searched and retrieved with the same options, regardless of repository
location or document format.  Users need only learn one set of conventions for
searching, retrieving, and displaying found documents which significantly
reduces learning curves.

    KEY NEW BENEFITS
    -  Easy to administer, integrated Web crawler - The Knowledge Activator
       for Web sites indexes both intranet and external Web sites (HTTP and
       HTTPS) and FTP sites via integrated Web crawler and indexing
       components.  Immediate indexing means users are able to get the most
       current information in an ongoing way, and do not have to wait until a
       crawling cycle is complete to begin seeing results to their searches.
       Administrators are provided with full control over rules for following
       HTML links including depth of crawl, frequency of crawl,
       include/exclude documents/domains.  Administrators can change crawling
       rules with a simple click of a mouse on crawler log entries.
       This contributes to the unparalleled ease-of-administration of
       Fulcrum's integrated crawler.
    -  Enhanced Knowledge Map - The Knowledge Map, providing each user with a
       view of information sources that have been indexed by the
       administrator and to which the user has access, can be customized in
       this version.  Administrators can now group portions of the underlying
       information sources into Knowledge Folders and name them according to
       business logic, which provides users with a more intuitive view into
       enterprise knowledge.
    -  Data independence - The Knowledge Map also means that users and
       applications are ``data independent''.  No changes are required to
       existing applications and stored queries to allow users to dynamically
       leverage new information sources and changes to the physical
       organization of information sources.
    -  Knowledge Activator for Lotus Notes - Administrators can now bridge
       content stored in Lotus Notes/Domino databases on NT, UNIX and OS/2
       with other information sources already indexed by the Knowledge
       Network.  With the Fulcrum Knowledge Network, users are able to search
       across multiple Notes databases simultaneously, and to search on
       specific Notes fields.
    -  Also new are the standalone Windows client for desktop, client/server
       access, enhanced security, and localized versions for French, German
       and Italian markets.

all users to the full range of information servers and additional
functionality, the North American price starts at approximately US$400 per

available immediately.
