HOUSTON, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- American General Corporation (NYSE: AGC)
today announced that Mark S. Berg has been named senior vice president and
general counsel. In this position, Berg will be responsible for the parent
company's legal division and will coordinate the legal activities of American
General's operating companies. Berg will report directly to Jon P. Newton,
vice chairman.
Berg, 38, joins American General from the Houston law firm of Vinson &
Elkins, L.L.P., where he began his legal career in 1983. He was named a
partner of the firm in 1991. Berg's practice focused on corporate finance,
principally in the areas of project finance and mergers and acquisitions. He
was responsible for coordinating the firm's Asian practice and served as co-
head of its project finance group.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Berg received his B.A. degree in public policy
and graduated magna cum laude from Tulane University in 1980, and his J.D.
degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1983. Berg
was selected to join Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta Phi, and Omicron Delta Kappa.
He is a member of the State Bar of Texas.
