Regional Affiliate Gulfstream International to Inaugurate Service to Andros
Island
DANIA, Fla., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines
(NYSE: CAL) regional affiliate Gulfstream International Airlines today
announced it will offer expanded Continental Connection service linking the
Bahamas with South Florida beginning Feb. 17.
As part of the increased service, Continental Connection will inaugurate
flights between Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Andros Town on the Bahamian island
of Andros, with four roundtrip flights each week. The airline also will offer
daily service linking Fort Lauderdale with both Georgetown and Governors
Harbour, Bahamas (up from four weekly flights during the 2003 winter season),
and will increase service linking Fort Lauderdale with Marsh Harbour, North
Eleuthera and Treasure Cay, Bahamas.
Flights will be operated by a combination of 19-seat Beech 1900 and
30-seat EMB-120 aircraft.
With the addition of service to Andros Town, Continental Connection will
offer flights to nine destinations in the Bahamas from Florida, more than any
other carrier in the United States. Gulfstream International also offers
nonstop Continental Connection service to the Bahamas from Miami and West Palm
Beach, Fla.
"I would like to congratulate Tom Cooper, chairman of Gulfstream
International Airlines -- the 2004 Bahamas Cacique Award Winner for 'Airline
of the Year' -- for yet another pioneering initiative," said the Honorable
Obie Wilchcome, minister of tourism for the Bahamas. "Continental
Connection's flights between Fort Lauderdale and Andros Town represent the
only scheduled air service between the U.S. mainland and Andros. This
provides Continental's global customers with convenient access to Andros and,
by extension, opens up brand new vistas of accessibility to all points on
Continental Airlines' route network for Andros residents."
Continental Connection flights are timed to connect to Continental's
services linking south Florida cities with the airline's hubs in Houston, New
York/Newark and Cleveland.
Customers traveling on Continental Connection receive Continental's
services and amenities, including:
* The ability to book flights, check in, redeem frequent flyer awards
and more at continental.com;
* At least 500 OnePass frequent flyer miles for each segment flown;
* Connections to an extensive global network of more than
650 destinations around the world;
* Automated self-service check-in at more than 120 airports.
