Sprint Technology Links Super Bowl XXXIII to the World

250 Sprint Engineers & Technicians Install 27 Miles of Cable and More Than
3,000 Communication Lines to Connect the NFL, its 31 Member Teams and More
Than 40 Remote Office Locations - Throughout Miami and Pro Player Stadium

MIAMI, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Sergio Gonzalez from the Miami Dade County
Mayor's office today welcomed National Football League (NFL) and Sprint
representatives during a ceremony that marked the official start of Super Bowl
XXXIII preparations. Sprint, the official telecommunications provider to the
NFL, has helped power the single-most popular annual sporting event in the
world since 1996, and today's arrival showed how much the technology behind
Super Sunday has changed over the course of the thirty-three years and eight
Super Bowls Miami has hosted.
Former Miami Dolphin kicker GaroYepremian, David Freeman of NFL Properties
and Super Bowl Host Committee Assistant Director Aundra Wallace joined Sprint
technology expert Mike Nargi and members of the Miami Dolphins cheerleading
squad to greet Sprint's 56-ft., 18-wheeler truck, which arrived from Atlanta
carrying the telecommunications infrastructure for Super Bowl XXXIII.
"Miami is happy to welcome Sprint and all those responsible for bringing
Super Bowl XXXIII to football fans around the world," said Gonzalez. "Super
Bowl XXXIII will be the 'most wired' and 'most wireless' Super Bowl in
history, and we are thrilled to once again host the greatest one-day sporting
event anywhere for a record eighth time."
In just three weeks, 250 Sprint engineers and technicians will install 27
miles of cable, more than 3000 communication lines for Super Bowl XXXIII. Once
complete, this network will be comparable to a communications infrastructure
for Miami International Airport. This is part of Sprint's 12 month-a-year
business commitment to the league and its 31 member teams that helps to enable
NFL.com and team Websites, allows owners to transmit high-speed data, connects
more than 40 separate offices -- giving the NFL a world-class communications
infrastructure.
Sprint will use the latest telecommunications technology to link several
sites around Miami for Super Bowl XXXIII, Nargi explained. These locations
include Pro Player Stadium, the NFL Media Center, NFL Properties' and NFL
Films' offices, as well as the NFL Experience and AFC and NFC headquarters
established in Miami. Sprint will continue to work closely with the NFL and
teams to meet all their operational needs leading up to Super Bowl Sunday and
throughout the game.
"The communications technology that will keep the NFL connected for Super
Bowl XXXIII involves the same products and services that our consumer and
business customers use daily," said Nargi. "Consumers will be able to see
Sprint's full array of products and services in action at Super Bowl XXXIII --
paging, wireless, videoconferencing and all the telecommunications technology
necessary to provide virtual team offices for the championship teams."
Sprint, which is the official telecommunications provider to the NFL and
its 31 teams, began designing the telecommunications network for Super Bowl
XXXIII 18 months ago. Sprint not only helps coaches communicate on the
sidelines, but also is responsible for making sure that everyone involved with
Super Bowl XXXIII can communicate simply and efficiently. Sprint technology
brings fans around the world closer to the game and links more than 3,200
journalists with their audiences.
"Sprint became the official telecommunications provider to the NFL three
years ago and they have done a tremendous job providing the best service to
the NFL and its member clubs," said David Freeman, account executive, NFL
Properties. "Through a wide range of NFL-branded products and services, Sprint
continues to be a significant sponsor in bringing our fans closer to the
game."
In June 1998, Sprint introduced the Sprint Integrated On-Demand Network
(ION), a revolutionary telecommunications capability that combines numerous
technological advances
Sprint is a global communications company at the forefront in integrating
long distance, local and wireless communications. Sprint built and operates
the United States' only nationwide, all digital, fiber-optic network and is
the leader in advanced data communications services. Sprint has $15 billion
in annual revenues and serves more than 16 million businesses and residential
customers.
