     Dr. Tom Kennedy to Bring Solectron's Worldwide Quality and Workforce
   Management Expertise to Newly Formed Department of Transportation Agency

    MILPITAS, Calif., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Solectron Corporation
(NYSE: SLR), the world's leading provider of electronics manufacturing and
supply-chain management services, today announced that Dr. Tom Kennedy,
Solectron special projects consultant and former vice president, quality, has
been selected to advise the newly formed Transportation Security
Administration (TSA).

    The Department of Transportation (DOT) established the TSA to handle all
functions of security throughout every mode of domestic transportation,
including aviation-related security.  The Senior Advisor Program is expected
to bring private sector best practices to the TSA, focusing on procurement;
metrics and quality; operations and process modeling; process design;
workforce recruitment, training and management; system design; and
organization design and effectiveness.
    In a previous announcement, Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta
said, "It is essential that the security systems of TSA effectively deter
terrorism, but with minimal disruption to transportation and complete service
to travelers and other users of transportation, and we're turning to the
private sector to join us in this effort."

of Solectron's worldwide corporate quality initiatives.  Under Dr. Kennedy's
direction, Solectron's quality service programs earned accolades from
customers, suppliers and government organizations, including the
Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1991 and 1997.  Dr. Kennedy retired
from full-time service at Solectron in 1999, and now acts as a special
projects consultant for the company.
    Dr. Kennedy earned master's and doctorate degrees in materials science
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  He holds a bachelor's degree in
physics from Siena College.  Dr. Kennedy is a member of the American Society
for Quality Control and the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers,
and serves on the board of MANEX, a partner of the U.S. Department of Commerce
and California State Department of Trade and Commerce.  He also serves on the
advisory board for Kisco Senior Living.
