COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Huntington Bancshares
Incorporated (Nasdaq: HBAN) today announced that Michael G. Comer, 44, has
been appointed to the newly created position of region president for West
Virginia, effective February 2, 2004. In this role he is responsible for
retail and commercial banking efforts in the state.
"Designating West Virginia as a region further demonstrates Huntington's
commitment to the state," said Huntington Vice Chairman Ronald C. Baldwin.
"We are pleased to have attracted such a talented, experienced, local banker
to lead this team. Mike's 23 years of banking experience in West Virginia will
enable us to build on our progress and grow our customer base as the local
bank with national resources."
Prior to joining Huntington, Comer served as regional president and
executive vice president at United Bank in Charleston where he was responsible
for achieving the bank's goals through operations in six counties. He began
his banking career in 1981 and has held a variety of positions in commercial
banking and senior management. Comer is a Major in the West Virginia Air
National Guard. An active member of the community, he is a member of the
board of directors for the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce, the West
Virginia State College Foundation, a member of the Charleston Rotary Club, and
the commissioner of the Charleston Housing Authority, among other activities.
He earned a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University.
