Solectron Completes Acquisition of Sony Facility in Taiwan

    MILPITAS, Calif. and KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Solectron
Corporation (NYSE: SLR), the world's leading provider of electronics
manufacturing and supply-chain management services, today said it completed
the acquisition of Sony Corporation's facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, as part
of a broader agreement announced by the companies in October 2000.

    The new Solectron site will provide a range of electronics manufacturing
services (EMS), including design, supply-base management, manufacturing and
assembly services to Sony and other customers.  As part of the transaction,
Solectron gains 130,000 square feet of manufacturing capacity.  In addition,
about 750 Sony employees transfer to Solectron.  The facility has capability
for high-end consumer electronics products such as cordless phones, radios,
lithium-ion battery packs and infrared receivers.
    In October 2000, Sony and Solectron announced a cooperation agreement that
included Solectron's acquisition of Sony Nakaniida Corporation in Miyagi,
Japan, and Sony Industries Taiwan in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.  Under the agreement,
Solectron will provide Sony with a full range of EMS services.
    Solectron completed the acquisition of the Nakaniida site in December
2000.
