LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Association of
REALTORS(R) Scholarship Foundation recently awarded 17 scholarships to college
students planning careers in real estate.
"The scholarships address our goal of bringing new professionals into the
real estate industry and training them with the skills required to effectively
meet the needs of future homeowners in California," said C.A.R. President Ann
Pettijohn.
"Recipients of a C.A.R. Scholarship Foundation award have demonstrated a
serious commitment to a career in real estate," she said. "They've completed
a minimum of two real estate or real estate-related college-level courses and
are currently enrolled in at least one real estate or real estate-related
course."
The California Association of REALTORS(R) Scholarship Foundation was
established in 1948. Scholarships are awarded three times annually, during
C.A.R. board of directors meetings in January and June and at the annual
California REALTOR(R) EXPO and business meetings held in the fall.
Scholarships were awarded to:
* Juan Aguilar-Mendoza of Berkeley, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000
scholarship from the Joseph Barnett Honorary Scholarship;
* Paul Akin of San Diego, a student at Mesa College: $500 scholarship
from the Anewalt Family Scholarship;
* Catherine Bedford of El Cerrito, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000
scholarship from the Kelly Braden Memorial Scholarship;
* Eric Busch of Berkeley, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000 scholarship
from the Byron Brawley Memorial Scholarship;
* Luis Castillo of San Francisco, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000
scholarship from the Oral Lee Brown Honorary Scholarship;
* Joseph Florczak of San Francisco, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000
scholarship from the Jack Paulson Memorial Scholarship;
* Matilda Kamiya of Albany, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000 scholarship
from the Joe Carnahan Honorary Scholarship;
* Hua Ni of Berkeley, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000 scholarship from
the Mary Dee Karp Honorary Scholarship;
* Keryn O'Donnell of San Francisco, a student at UC Berkeley: $750
scholarship from the Tim Corliss Memorial Scholarship;
* Phillip Owens of Berkeley, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000
scholarship from the Maurice G. Read Memorial;
* Matthew Para of San Luis Obispo, a student at Cal Poly San Luis
Obispo: $1,000 scholarship from the Michael Freeman Memorial
Scholarship;
* Eddy Portillo of San Bernardino, a student at CSU San Bernardino:
$1,000 scholarship from the Walt McDonald Honorary Scholarship;
* Devin Redmond of Berkeley, a student at UC Berkeley: $750 scholarship
from the Maurice G. Read Memorial Scholarship;
* Eric Schrump of San Francisco, a student at UC Berkeley: $750
scholarship from the Mary L. Vaughan Memorial Scholarship;
* Andrea Ursillo of Oakland, a student at UC Berkeley: $500 scholarship
from the Ed J.J. McKeegan Memorial Scholarship;
* John Waterbury of Oakland, a student at UC Berkeley: $750 scholarship
from the Loren Mowrey Memorial Scholarship; and
* Scott Youdall of San Francisco, a student at UC Berkeley: $1,000
scholarship from the Donald Wiedmann Memorial Scholarship.
