Rolls-Royce Wins 6th Collier Trophy

    INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Rolls-Royce Corporation today
welcomed the news that it has won the 2001 Collier Trophy as a team member on
the Integrated LiftFan(TM) Propulsion System, demonstrated during this past
summer's Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) flight demonstration program.  Rolls-Royce
provided the advanced technology STOVL components for the system, most notably
the LiftFan(TM).
    "Winning the Collier Trophy is a tremendous achievement and Rolls-Royce is
proud to have done so six times.  Today's award recognizes our commitment to
advanced technology and innovative solutions for aerospace," said James
Guyette, President and CEO, Rolls-Royce North America.
    An industry team led by Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Lockheed Martin,
Northrop Grumman Corporation and BAE SYSTEMS received the 2001 Collier Trophy
for developing a propulsion system which featured breakthroughs in thrust-to-
lift capability while achieving major increases in performance, efficiency and
safety.  Rolls-Royce was on the Collier Trophy winning teams in 1987, 1990,
1996, 1997 and most recently in 2000, in honor of the contribution to the
success of the Global Hawk's unmanned aerial vehicle.
    The award is presented annually, "For the greatest achievement in
aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the
performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of
which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding
year."  The trophy, established in 1911, is awarded by the National Aeronautic
Association.  The Collier Trophy has been called the greatest and most prized
of all aeronautical honors in the United States of America.
