MILPITAS, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Solectron Corporation
(NYSE: SLR), a leading provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain
services, today announced the appointment of three people to senior leadership
positions in the company's Technology Solutions business unit.

The changes are related to the transition of Ajay Shah, executive vice
president of Solectron and president of Technology Solutions, to a role as a
non-employee director of the corporation. Shareholders elected Shah to the
board at Solectron's annual meeting last month.
Named to succeed Shah as an executive vice president of Solectron and
president of Technology Solutions is Craig London. He will join Solectron
from Safeguard Scientifics Inc., a diversified information technology company
that identifies, develops and operates emerging technology companies.
In addition, two current Solectron executives have been promoted to
leadership positions within Technology Solutions. Iain MacKenzie becomes
president of SMART Modular Technologies, and Paul Mercadante becomes president
of Force Computers. MacKenzie and Mercadante will report to London. SMART
and Force are wholly owned Solectron subsidiaries.

Craig London. In his new role at Solectron, London will be responsible
for leading Technology Solutions, one of four operating segments at Solectron.
He will also be an officer of the corporation. London brings nearly 30 years
of experience in sales, marketing and engineering management at technology
companies. Most recently, he was managing director-technology products and an
executive officer at Safeguard Scientifics, where he specialized in the
technology sector for new investments. Previously, he was president and CEO
of Diva Communications, Inc., a wireless communications equipment
manufacturer. London also held various executive management positions,
including sales, service and operations in the United States and Asia, during
eight years with Nortel Networks. His experience also includes leadership
positions at Rockwell International Telecommunications, Electronic Systems
Associates, Pacific Telephone and AT&T. London earned a bachelor's degree in
physics from the University of California-Berkeley and an MBA from Pepperdine
University.
Iain MacKenzie. As president of SMART, MacKenzie will be responsible for
SMART's memory and communications units, and sales and engineering functions.
He is promoted from his position as vice president of worldwide operations for
Technology Solutions. MacKenzie has more than 25 years of experience in the
electronics industry. Previously, he was vice president of operations at
SMART, and he held a number of engineering, sales, production and operations
positions with Hughes Microelectronics and with Digital Equipment Corp. in
Scotland. MacKenzie holds the Ordinary National Diploma in electrical
electronics and the Higher National Diploma in mechanical and production
sciences from Kirkcaldy College of Technology in Scotland.
Paul Mercadante. As president of Force, Mercadante is responsible for
driving Force's boards, systems and Dy 4 defense and aerospace divisions. He
joined Force in 2000 as vice president and general manager of the custom
boards and systems division, and most recently was vice president of strategic
planning for Technology Solutions. Previously, Mercadante was vice president
and general manager of I/O products at SMART. He has also held leadership
positions at Rose Communications, Activision and Apex Data. Mercadante earned
a bachelor's degree in economics from the State University of New York.
Ajay Shah. Shah joined Solectron in 1999 as a corporate officer and
president and CEO officer of Technology Solutions. In 1988, he co-founded
SMART Modular Technologies, where he was president and CEO until Solectron
acquired it in December 1999. Previously, he held strategic marketing and
product line management positions at Samsung Semiconductor and at Advanced
Micro Devices. Shah holds a master's degree in engineering management from
Stanford University and a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University
of Baroda, India.

technologies such as memory sub-systems; embedded board and systems solutions
for telecommunications, networking, industrial control and consumer
applications; communications solutions such as I/O, networking and wireless
