AG Communication Systems Names Strowger Award Winners, Thanks Employees with Cash and Travel Awards

PHOENIX, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems honored five
employees with its prestigious Strowger Award for Technical Achievement at the
Arizona Biltmore last night in Phoenix. The team of Mike Baiamonte, Rob
Gollon, James Hoff, Roy Weinberg and Marc White received the award for their
work on hardware architecture to expand network capacity of the company's
GTD-5(R) central office switching system. Each winner received cash prizes
and travel awards.
The Strowger Award is named for Almon B. Strowger, the company's founder
and the inventor of the automatic telephone switch. It is the company's
highest technical honor, recognizing innovation, creativity and significant
financial achievement to AG Communication Systems.
"The goal of the program is to reward employees who have made significant
technical contributions to the success of AG Communication Systems," said Jeff
Seigel, president and chief executive officer. "This recognition sends the
message that we want our key employees to share in the organization's business
success in a tangible way. The travel award is a way of recognizing the long
hours and dedication such achievement typically requires."
The winning team employed several innovative ideas to effectively double
the network capacity of the GTD-5 central office switching system while
maximizing customers' reuse of existing equipment. This was a major milestone
in achieving the company's objective of integrating its products with those
from Lucent Technologies, the parent company of AG Communication Systems. It
provides a foundation for future service offerings on the GTD-5, including a
high-speed network interface and the capability to host a variety of Lucent
peripherals.
The network capacity improvements have been crucial in preventing large
customer sites from replacing their GTD-5s when the switches approach their
capacity limit. While this Strowger Award is for hardware architecture, many
software developers contributed heavily to the successful and early
implementation of the network upgrade feature.
AG Communication Systems recognizes top-performing employees with a number
of awards. In addition to the Strowger Award, other honors include software
awards, patent awards, quality awards, individual or group achievement awards,
outstanding performance awards and the President's Award.
Phoenix-based AG Communication Systems, a subsidiary of Lucent
