NEEDHAM, Mass., March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- BrahmaCom announced today that it
is offering bundled voice and data service packages in Natick, Mass.,
providing residential customers with a clear alternative to incumbent local
exchange carriers and broadband cable companies.
The Boston-based integrated communications access line provider has been
test-marketing its services successfully in Natick for several months.
Beginning this month, BrahmaCom will expand its voice and data offerings to
customers in the 617, 508, 781 and 978 area codes. Over the next three years,
the company expects to deploy more than 23,000 lines to local residential and
multiple-dwelling-unit customers in Massachusetts, with future plans to expand
nationwide.
BrahmaCom is using Lucent Technologies' SuperLine Access System to
simultaneously provide plain old telephone service (POTS), plus high-speed
data Internet access and two voice-over-digital-subscriber-line (VoDSL) phone
lines over a single existing copper wire pair.
"We chose SuperLine over other VoDSL products for a number of reasons,"
said Barlow Keener, president and chief executive officer of BrahmaCom.
"First and foremost, the voice quality on the derived phone lines is as clear
if not clearer than the original voice line. In addition, SuperLine
technology offers better 'reach' than other solutions. That means we can
serve more customers in a given area, because we're affected by fewer
technical limitations in the telephone network than most other DSL products."
"The key value proposition that differentiates SuperLine from other VoDSL
products is its ability to use the existing telephone line to offer two new
voice services and high-speed data without interfering with the standard voice
services," said Steve Quibell, vice president -- access, AG Communication
Systems, a subsidiary of Lucent Technologies. Quibell noted that SuperLine
has been shipping since 1999, and the product is in service with more than
20 independent telephone companies throughout the United States.
"As a local company, we think Bostonians will be pleasantly surprised by
both our commitment to personalized customer service and our prices, which are
lower than those currently available in this market," said Keener. "What's
more, we're confident that customers will love the benefits of multiple voice
services and high-speed data over the single copper line that's already
running to their homes."
BrahmaCom also will offer customers fast, clear two-way video
communications, with the simple addition of a low-cost camera. With its
videophone service, the jumpy images associated with other videoconferencing
systems are a thing of the past. Subscribers to BrahmaCom's videophone
service will be able to see the people with whom they are having a
conversation.
BrahmaCom is a rapidly growing community telephone company that provides
low-priced, next generation communications services to small business and
residential customers. BrahmaCom's products include local, long-distance and
