Solectron Chosen as Sole Manufacturing and Repair Services Provider for G10
Cable Modem Termination System
MILPITAS, Calif., March 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Solectron Corporation
(NYSE: SLR) said today it has been selected by Juniper Networks to provide
manufacturing services for its G10 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS).
Cable operators use the G10 CMTS to manage and terminate thousands of
simultaneous cable modem data sessions over the last mile of a broadband cable
infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Solectron will provide new product introduction
(NPI), printed circuit board assembly, full-systems build, fulfillment and
repair services for the G10 CMTS. This agreement expands Solectron's and
Juniper Networks' manufacturing services partnership, which began in 1997.
Since Juniper's inception, Solectron has been a virtual supply-chain partner,
providing prototyping, manufacturing and repair services for Juniper Networks'
core, edge, mobile and cable products.
"We are very pleased that Juniper Networks selected us for this
manufacturing and repair business," said Mitch Schoch, Solectron vice
president of account management, Americas. "This agreement takes advantage of
the types of capabilities Solectron has been building to serve a full range of
OEMs' supply-chain needs. We are proud that Juniper, an industry-leading
company, has relied on us for high-quality supply-chain services over the last
five years."
"We have developed a superior CMTS solution for cable operators across the
world," said Michael Dodd, vice president of operations for Juniper Networks.
"By selecting Solectron as the manufacturer, the G10 CMTS will deliver the
high quality that is necessary for today's advanced networks."
The foundation of the G10 CMTS is Juniper Networks' custom silicon -- the
Broadband Cable Processor ASIC. This custom ASIC digitizes the entire 5-42
MHz return spectrum to collapse the functionality of 20 legacy CMTS chips into
a single ASIC. The ASIC's all-digital return enables cable operators to
deliver more bandwidth for advanced IP services and provides superior RF
performance. The benefit to cable operators is the ability to simultaneously
support a higher number of cable modems and lower capital expenses for cable
operators.
