PHOENIX, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems today announced
that Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Crime Lab completed its final
acceptance and is up and running with JusticeTrax(R) LIMS-plus(TM) case
management software solution.
Located just outside of New Orleans in Metairie, La., Jefferson Parish
Crime Lab is a full-service lab that performs forensic analysis in the areas
of controlled substances, serology, firearms and toolmark identification,
latent print processing, blood alcohol and some trace analysis including
arson, hairs and fibers and firearms distance determination. The lab
currently receives more than 6,000 cases annually and serves 10 different law
enforcement agencies. The lab expects the number of submitting agencies to
increase as well as its caseload.
Jefferson Parish sole-sourced JusticeTrax for 11 LIMS-plus licenses. The
lab had been using an in-house system written in COBOL that ran on a DEC VMS
operating system, DEC terminal servers and VT terminals. The system performed
basic database searches and compiled data. Jefferson Parish Crime Lab
selected JusticeTrax LIMS-plus because of its capabilities in evidence
handling, tracking and report writing. "Compared with other LIMS packages
which I looked at, JusticeTrax appeared to require the least amount of setup
and modification for our individual site," states Jefferson Parish Crime Lab
Director, Milton Dureau, Jr.
"In other words, it is geared specifically for a forensic environment
where other LIMS packages are appealing to a wider audience (e.g., analytical
or clinical labs)."
With JusticeTrax LIMS-plus, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Crime Lab now has a
Windows(R)-based solution installed on its local area network and
workstations, allowing analysts to work on the system concurrently with real-
time data. LIMS-plus tracks evidence throughout its lifecycle and provides
the lab with a full suite of discipline-specific modules and Crystal
Reports(R) for ad-hoc reporting. It also provides workflow and statistical
tracking and reporting.
