Table Top Telephone to Offer High-Speed Data and Multiple Voice Line Services In Rural Arizona With Lucent's SuperLine Access System

AJO, Ariz., May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) announced
today that Table Top Telephone Co., an independent local exchange carrier
based in southern Arizona, will use Lucent equipment to offer affordable high-
speed data and multiple voice line services in the rural Arizona communities
of Aguila, Ajo, Bagdad, Inscription Canyon, Sanders and Seligman.
Table Top Telephone is using the Lucent Technologies' SuperLine(TM) Access
System, a digital subscriber line (DSL) platform, to simultaneously provide
high-speed Internet access, plain old telephone service (POTS), plus two
voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) phone lines over a single, existing copper wire pair.
"SuperLine solves a pressing need for us as we fulfill our customers'
increasing demand for additional phone lines and high-speed data access," said
John Hayes, general manager of Table Top Telephone. "For our rural service
areas with outside temperatures ranging from 130 to minus 20 degrees
Fahrenheit, we need a robust product like SuperLine that works effectively in
these harsh external environments and can accommodate long loops as well as
bridge taps."
During the initial deployment phase beginning July 1, 2001, Table Top
Telephone will install 10 SuperLine platforms throughout its network,
including four in central offices and six in digital loop carrier (DLC)
locations. Eight additional SuperLine platforms are scheduled for
installation in a second deployment phase beginning in 2002.
"SuperLine is easy to provision and deploy," Hayes said. "Because it's
simple to understand and use, we expect most of our customers will be able to
install the system themselves. This will allow us to offer our services at
very attractive and sustainable prices. Moreover, we can add second and third
lines with no new outside plant construction, which means we can accelerate
the deployment of DSL to our rural customers."
"SuperLine offers service providers a cost-effective business model," said
Steve Quibell, vice president of integrated access products at AG
Communication Systems, a subsidiary of Lucent Technologies. "SuperLine allows
Table Top Telephone to expand its core revenues by offering customers high-
speed data and full-featured voice services right now without interfering with
the standard voice services."
Shipping since 1999, the SuperLine system is in service with more than
20 independent telephone companies throughout the United States. The system
is part of Lucent's broad and deep DSL portfolio, which includes ultrahigh-
density Stinger(R) DSL access concentrator for central office deployments; the
Stinger LS for smaller-density deployments, including the multitenant unit
market; the hardened Stinger RT for outdoor remote terminal installations;
AnyMedia(R) Access Systems for multiservice access and next generation digital
loop carrier applications; and CellPipe(TM) Integrated Access Devices for the
customer premises.
Table Top Telephone Co., Inc., provides switched and dedicated
telecommunications products and services over its 100 percent digital switch
and transmission networks. Headquartered in Ajo, the company serves more than
5,300 access lines throughout Arizona, including Aguila, Bagdad, Inscription
Canyon, Lukeville, North Ranch, Sanders, Seligman and Why.
Lucent Technologies, headquartered in Murray Hill, N.J., designs and
