AG Communication Systems Showcases SuperLine Access System at SUPERCOMM '99

Innovative Bundled-Services-Over-Copper Solution is Available Today
And Deployed in Various Customer Networks

    ATLANTA, SUPERCOMM '99, June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems, a
subsidiary of Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU), will showcase its SuperLine(TM)
Access System at the SUPERCOMM '99 trade show at the Georgia World Congress
Center June 8-10, 1999. SuperLine allows service providers to expand their
core voice business and strengthen their emerging data services in the
residential and small business market.
Live links between the booths of AG Communication Systems (#6039), Lucent
Technologies (#8039) and Paradyne Corporation (#2031) will demonstrate the
product's bundled voice and data capabilities. A SuperLine Access Shelf in
the AG Communication Systems booth will be connected to Lucent's 5ESS(R) VCDX
switch. SuperLine Integrated Access Devices (IADs) will be located in both
the AG Communication Systems and Paradyne booths.
The SuperLine platform delivers three fully featured voice lines
(including the standard POTS service) and Ethernet data over a single twisted
copper pair. SuperLine supports all CLASS and Centrex enhanced features on
each voice line, including caller ID, last call return, call forwarding, call
waiting and distinctive ringing. SuperLine also supports the
maximum-allowable speeds of V.90 analog modems using AG Communication Systems'
SuperSpeed(TM) technology on each derived line. In addition, SuperLine allows
users to exchange Internet data at speeds of up to half a megabit per second
on normal loops using the built-in Ethernet data port. Unlike alternative
technologies that share bandwidth, SuperLine data is sent point to point and
therefore is private and secure.
"Unlike some announced competitive products, SuperLine isn't vaporware,"
said Mark Emery, vice president and general manager of AG Communication
Systems' New Ventures Group. "In fact, we've already sold SuperLine to
several service providers that are deploying the product now in trials. These
trials are going well, and we expect even more customer deployments this
summer."
The SuperLine solution consists of two major elements: the fully
NEBS-compliant SuperLine Access Shelf manufactured by AG Communication Systems
and the SuperLine IAD manufactured by Paradyne Corporation. The SuperLine
Access Shelf resides in a service provider's central office or at a remote
digital loop carrier's (DLC) location. The SuperLine IAD -- a piece of
equipment the size of a regular modem -- is located in a customer's home or
office and is customer-installable, so service providers do not need to send
technicians to each home or office to install the SuperLine IAD. At the home
or small office, the consumer simply plugs the SuperLine IAD into a
conventional power outlet and any existing telephone jack.
SuperLine offers proven connectivity to all major digital switches, such
as the 5ESS, DMS-100(R), GTD-5(R) and EWSD(R), using standard TR-303 and TR-08
interfaces. SuperLine also complies with TR-57 transmission standards for
local loops, which allows the standard POTS line to ring without interfering
with the derived voice lines.
SuperLine can run over any or all copper pairs in standard binder groups
because it uses Tripleplay(TM) technology from Paradyne and is compatible with
existing network services, including POTS, ISDN, ADSL, T1 and legacy data
circuits.
SuperLine has undergone extensive testing by independent laboratories to
verify its performance and compliance with industry standards. Telcordia
Technologies (formerly Bellcore) is currently certifying SuperLine's
compliance with GR-303-CORE and TR-57 standards. Interteck Testing Services
(formerly TestMark Laboratories) also has certified SuperLine's compliance
with local loop transmission standards and other performance benchmarks.
The SuperLine platform is flexible and has been designed to accommodate
various communications protocols as industry standards develop. For example,
support for G.Lite and compliance with T1E1.4 power spectrum standards are
planned for SuperLine once those standards are completed.
With SuperLine, AG Communication Systems is joined by world-class partners
Paradyne Corporation and Lucent Technologies. Paradyne, manufacturer of the
SuperLine IAD, is a leading developer and provider of products and
technologies that facilitate high-speed access to networks worldwide for
communications, computing and information. Recognized as the market share

Lucent Technologies is the primary sales and marketing channel for the
SuperLine Access System. SuperLine is part of Lucent's access portfolio for
service providers looking to cost-effectively offer multiple services over a
single phone line.
