Avnet Deploys ROAMEO Wireless Office System; ROAMEO Helps Avnet Improve Customer Service and Reduce Costs

PHOENIX, June 26 /PRNewswire/ -- AG Communication Systems, a subsidiary of
Lucent Technologies, announced today that Avnet, Inc., has successfully
deployed the ROAMEO(R) wireless office phone system at two of its Phoenix-area
locations, including its headquarters near Sky Harbor International Airport
and its McKemy facility in Chandler, Ariz.
"We were looking for a way to improve productivity by making our employees
easier to reach," said Charles King, senior network engineer at Avnet. King
noted that Avnet's employees are highly mobile, spending a great deal of time
away from their desks, both within and outside of their office complexes.
"ROAMEO was the perfect solution for us, because it integrated easily with our
existing PBX and made each user more accessible with just a single contact
phone number. Employees now play less telephone tag and spend less time
listening to voice mail messages."
In addition to productivity improvements, Avnet has also realized cost
savings on long-distance toll calls. "We do business in more than
60 countries," King continued. "Consequently, we receive calls from all over
the world. With ROAMEO, we have to return fewer long-distance calls, because
our employees now take inbound calls as they arrive, whether they're at their
desks or not."
"ROAMEO offers mobile workers a unique solution by allowing them to have
one-phone, one-number capability whether the user is at his desk, anywhere in
the office campus complex or anywhere in the United States," said Chuck
Hellquist, AG Communication Systems' vice president of wireless products. "We
are confident that Avnet will find ROAMEO to be a great tool to increase
productivity and customer responsiveness in their competitive environment."
When fully deployed at these two locations, Avnet will have more than
200 ROAMEO users. In the near future, the company expects to equip eight or
more locations with the ROAMEO wireless office system.
AG Communication Systems' ROAMEO is an adjunct to existing PBX, Centrex or
key office phone systems that allows a standard cellular/PCS phone to act as a
wireless extension of subscribers' desk phones. The system allows users to
make and receive calls and utilize all the features of their office phones
(such as call transfer and forwarding, 4- or 5-digit dialing, and three-way
calling) with a wireless phone anywhere in a building or campus environment.
Calls within range of the system incur no per-minute airtime charges.
Subscribers can use the same handset in the external wireless environment,
giving them "one-number-reaches-you-anywhere" convenience.
AG Communication Systems sells ROAMEO through major wireless service
providers, including AT&T Wireless Services and SBC Wireless. Since the
product was introduced a year ago, the company has sold ROAMEO systems to more
than 40 customers across North America from a broad cross section of
industries.
