DynCorp Wins $1 Billion Contract to Provide Desktop Services to NASA-ODIN

Win Locks in $1.2 Billion Tech Firm's Corporate IT and Outsourcing Strategy

    RESTON, Va., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- DynCorp -- a $1.2 billion information
technology and outsourcing services company -- today announced that its
affiliate company, TechServ, LLC, has been awarded the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration's Outsourcing Desktop Initiative (NASA-ODIN)
contract, a 10-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) program
with a total potential value of $1 billion.
"The NASA-ODIN contract is a particularly exciting win for DynCorp because
it reinforces that we are on the right track with our strategy of growing our
IT outsourcing and privatization business," said DynCorp President and Chief
Executive Officer Paul V. Lombardi. "The program also represents a major
departure from the way NASA traditionally contracts for desktop support
services and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to bring our team's
unique expertise to help the agency succeed with this new approach." Lombardi
added that TechServ combines the knowledge of working in the federal
environment with best practices of commercial IT arena to provide unparalleled
IT services to NASA.
The ODIN program will consolidate NASA's computerized desktop and
communications service requirements into one contract vehicle, with the prime
contractor, DynCorp, having the responsibility for delivering the full range
of desktop hardware, software and services. Specific services delivered
include program and configuration management, hardware and software
installation, maintenance and support, network support, training,
telecommunications support and customer help desk management.
"A key differentiator between the DynCorp team and our competitors is the
fact that all of our partners are recognized leaders in the commercial sector
in the delivery of desktop support services," added Lombardi. The DynCorp
team includes MicroAge, Tempe, AZ; Decision0ne, Frazer, PA; and XeroxConnect,
Exton, PA.
"The DynCorp team will make it possible for NASA to take advantage of a
more contemporary, cost-effective approach to technology management, and in
turn, allow them to focus their in house resources on NASA's core mission.
This strategy reflects a growing trend towards outsourcing and privatization
of non-core functions within the government. It's also a key component of
DynCorp's IT and outsourcing strategy," Lombardi said.
A leading information technology and professional services company,
DynCorp has supported NASA for several years, and was recently presented with
the agency's prestigious George M. Low Award. The award, which honors
contractors who achieve and maintain the highest quality and performance
standards in the industry, was given to the DynCorp in recognition of its
demonstration of a sustained exceptional level of quality and technical
performance on its NASA contract at the Johnson Space Center.
Headquartered in Reston, Va., DynCorp employs more than 16,000 people in
over 250 major offices worldwide. It is the third largest high-tech,
employee-owned company in the United States.
