American Medical Systems Added to The Russell(R) 2000 Index

    MINNEAPOLIS, July 10 /PRNewswire/ --
    American Medical Systems Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMMD), today announced
that it has been named to the Russell 2000(R) Index, which measures the
performance of the 2,000 largest U.S. companies based on total market
capitalization.  The Frank Russell Company recently unveiled new company
additions, which included American Medical Systems (AMS).

    "American Medical Systems' inclusion in the Russell 2000 Index represents
a significant milestone," said AMS president and CEO Douglas W. Kohrs.  "AMS
looks forward to continuing growth and welcomes the increased visibility of
being part of the Russell 2000 Index."
    AMS went public in August 2000 and recently completed a secondary stock
offering that raised more than $53 million in proceeds for the company to fund
future growth.  For the first quarter ended March 30, 2001, the company
reported net sales of $27.5 million, a 10.3 percent increase over sales of
$25.0 million in the same quarter last year.  The company reported earnings of
$.05 per diluted share for the quarter.
    The Frank Russell Company ranks the 2,000 largest stocks in the U.S.
equity market by capitalization as of May 31, creating the Russell 2000(R)
Index.  Russell indices are rebalanced annually using objective criteria,
primarily market capitalization, and do not reflect any subjective inclusion
criteria or committee decisions.
