CA's Industry-Leading Enterprise Management Software
Empowers TCG's Small Staff To Do Big Job
ISLANDIA, N.Y. and TAIPEI, Taiwan, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Computer
Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that the Taipei County
government is deploying CA's industry-leading Unicenter TNG enterprise
management software to radically improve its use of networked computing
technologies across operational units.
Taipei County's Unicenter TNG implementation is part of a strategic,
NT$700 million, four-year initiative to transform government services to meet
the needs of its Information Age constituency. This information technology
initiative will affect all county agencies, schools and local offices --
totaling almost 400 separate organizational entities. Unicenter TNG will
provide the monitoring and management control functions necessary to implement
next-generation computing and communications technologies across the county,
the largest in Taiwan.
Of particular importance is the ability Unicenter TNG will give Taipei
County's small, 10-person IT staff to manage network, system and application
resources in hundreds of offices dispersed over an area of 2,052 square
kilometers. Unicenter TNG's unique, robust automation capabilities will
empower that staff to initially manage more than 400 servers and PCs in the
county's main office, along with servers located in 21 selected municipal
facilities. Unicenter TNG Remote Control and Software Delivery options will
allow Taipei County's IT staff to quickly troubleshoot and resolve problems in
remote machines and perform all necessary software distribution and upgrade
tasks without leaving their desks.
"One of the great promises of technology today is the ability to do more
with less," said Yung-Huang Kao, director of the IT Division of TCG. "With
Unicenter TNG, we will be able to fulfill that promise and deliver more
sophisticated electronic services to the population of Taipei County."
Kao said, "Deploying the Unicenter TNG Remote Control and Software
Delivery options will make it possible to manage such a wide range of IT
devices across distributed environments with limited staff. Information
administrators will be able to monitor, manage and track all computer software
and hardware, including remote resources, through a central console. In
addition, Unicenter TNG will help us optimize inventory management,
authentication and access control, as well as software version control."
According to Cliff Yung, CA general manager for Greater China, improved
enterprise management is essential for Taipei County to meet the challenges of
serving a growing population of citizens and business. "To increase the scale
and sophistication of its IT services, Taipei County must be able to better
monitor, manage and leverage the infrastructure that supports those services,"
he said. "Unicenter TNG provides all the critical functionality necessary to
achieve that higher level of management capability, and will provide that
functionality without unduly straining the county's human and capital
resources."
Taipei County's decision to implement Unicenter TNG follows several
high-profile customer wins by CA in Taiwan and other Asian markets. "Our
commitment to both technical and organizational localization is clearly paying
off," said Yung. "The investments we are making with our business partners in
Taiwan and elsewhere in Asia will be beneficial for years to come."
