Lucent Technologies Announces Latest Version of Enhanced Business Services

Release 2.0 Harnesses Today's Array of Communication and Collaboration Tools
                          Into an Easy-to-Use System

PHOENIX, July 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU)
today announced its Enhanced Business Services (EBS) 2.0 solution, designed to
enable service providers to deliver new productivity-enhancing telephony
features to business customers without the need for premises-based equipment.
Lucent EBS 2.0 strengthens Lucent's recently released IP Centrex solution
and offers a wide range of hosted applications based on Internet Protocol (IP)
voice and data. It creates a simple, intuitive portal that coordinates
disparate communication systems, including data-centric systems, for increased
worker productivity and organizational efficiencies.
"A solution like Lucent EBS preserves and extends existing communications
environments by integrating previously discrete applications and by vastly
improving usability and manageability," said Mark Winther, group vice
president, Worldwide Telecommunication for analyst firm IDC. "It's the only
portal that enables users to effectively manage the critical applications
required in today's dynamic office environment. EBS apps deliver compelling
end-user value to make enterprises more efficient, effective and profitable."
EBS 2.0 includes new features, such as call and presence management (call
logging, click-to-dial as well as transfer/conference-to-dial from multiple
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol directories); business-grade instant
messaging, conference management (notes, subconferencing, click-to-
conference); and calendar and meeting management.
"EBS 2.0 comprises back-office improvements, increased reliability and a
smooth pathway to third-party programmability," said Mike Pflueger, vice
president of Product Management -- IP Applications at Lucent subsidiary AG
Communication Systems. "These features create a powerful communication portal
that service providers can now offer to more business customers. This portal
integrates voice features with the data applications we all know, so that
enterprises can now truly leverage the power of convergence with point-and-
click ease."
EBS 2.0 resides in the service provider's network, interfacing to Lucent's
IP Centrex solution. EBS 2.0 effectively provides value-added services to a
wide range of different enterprises from one centrally located platform using
an architecture that offers enterprises a strong strategic advantage. EBS 2.0
offers a "secure local data" option in which EBS applications emanate from the
network, but through which proprietary data such as employee names, addresses
and phone numbers securely reside at the enterprise level.
The Lucent IP Centrex solution is an end-to-end offer incorporating the
Lucent iMerge(TM) Centrex Feature Gateway (CFG) and the SpringTide(R) 7000 IP
Service Switch which is managed by Navis(TM) Lightship EMS. The iMerge(TM)
CFG -- which works with any Class 5 switch -- serves as a bridge between
circuit-switched networks and IP network infrastructures, delivering the
features and functionality of that Class 5 switch on the packet network.
The SpringTide(R) 7000 IP Service Switch enables the convergence of voice
and data traffic onto a single platform designed to support many enterprise
customers, reducing capital expense and operational expenses as compared with
traditional routing solutions. The SpringTide(R) 7000 platform facilitates
easy integration into provider operation support systems since it has passed
the Operations Systems Modification of Intelligent Network Elements (OSMINE)
process. This carrier-class IP services platform performs virtual routing,
advanced IP services for enterprise security (virtual firewall) and IP address
management, and the bandwidth management needed in converged IP applications.
Navis(TM) Lightship is a product in the Navis iOperations portfolio providing
carrier class, scalable, service creation, provisioning, and FCAPS
functionality.
